Luxury Trains in India
Four palace trains, a week of royal India on rails, and a private tour built around your journey from the day you land to the day you fly home.
Hero photo: luxury train (own or licensed image)India has four luxury trains: the Maharajas' Express, the Palace on Wheels, the Golden Chariot and the Deccan Odyssey. They run from September to April on journeys of three to seven nights, and the fare covers your cabin, meals on board and guided excursions. We book the train and plan everything around it: hotels, a private car at the station and any extra days you have in India.
The Four Luxury Trains of India
Each train covers a different part of the country, so the right one depends first on where you want to go, then on how much space and ceremony you want on board.

Maharajas Express
The most lavish train in the country, with some of the largest suites on Indian rails and four routes that range from Rajasthan to the Taj Mahal and Varanasi.
Which Luxury Train Suits You?
A side by side view of what separates the four. If two of them look equally right, tell us which sights matter most and we will narrow it down.
| Train | Best For | Region | Length | Style | Operator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maharajas' Express | Couples marking a milestone, guests who want suite space | Rajasthan, Agra, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Mumbai | 3 or 6 nights | Grand and formal, the most ornate interiors | IRCTC |
| Palace on Wheels | First timers who want the classic Rajasthan route | Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Agra | 7 nights | Heritage décor, named saloons for each princely state | RTDC with Indian Railways |
| Golden Chariot | Travelers who have seen the north and want the south | Karnataka, with routes to Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu | 3 or 5 nights | Smaller and more intimate, 40 cabins | IRCTC |
| Deccan Odyssey | Art, cave temples and coastline | Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat | 7 nights | Contemporary comfort on longer western routes | MTDC |
Luxury Train Tour Packages
Every journey on the four trains, plus combined tours that add private days by road before or after the rail portion.
Your Train Is Only Part of the Trip
The train looks after you from boarding to the final platform. What happens on either side is up to you, and that is where most of the planning lies. Flights rarely land on departure day, the journey often ends in a different city from where it began, and many guests want to see places the train does not stop at.
.
We fill those gaps with the same care as the rail journey itself, so the whole trip feels like one holiday rather than a train ticket with loose ends.
Hotels before and after the train
A private car waiting at the platform
Airport transfers both ways
Extra days where the train does not go

We are an independent tour operator, not the train operator. Your cabin is confirmed by IRCTC, RTDC or MTDC, and we handle the booking, the paperwork and everything that surrounds the journey.
When Do India's Luxury Trains Run?
All four trains run between September and April and rest through the heat of summer and the monsoon. October to March brings dry days and cool evenings, which suits the long sightseeing excursions.
Departures in December, January and February fill first, often a year ahead. Plan six to twelve months out, and earlier still if you want the largest suites.
