Maharajas Express: India's Most Luxurious Train Journey
The most lavish train in the country, with some of the largest suites on Indian rails and four routes that range from Rajasthan to the Taj Mahal and Varanasi.
A Palace That Moves by Night
The Maharajas' Express entered service in 2010 under Indian Railways' tourism arm, IRCTC, with one aim: to be the most luxurious way to see India by rail. It still is. The train carries no more than eighty eight guests, travels mostly by night, and spends the days on guided excursions to forts, palaces, temples and a tiger reserve.
What sets it apart from India's other luxury trains is space. Even the entry Deluxe Cabins have proper beds and a private bathroom, the suites have separate living rooms, and the Presidential Suite fills an entire carriage. Interiors draw on the décor of Indian royal residences, with hand painted ceilings, brass fittings and rich fabrics.
There are four set journeys of three or six nights. Choosing between them comes down to which part of India you want to see, and how the train fits around the rest of your trip.

Before and After Your Train
The Maharajas' Express starts and ends in Delhi or Mumbai, usually at a different city from where you land. Flights from Europe and the US arrive late at night, and the train departs in the afternoon, so most guests need at least one hotel night before boarding.
That is where we come in. We plan the days on either side with the same standard as the train, and you have one person to call for all of it.
