Fairs and festivals in India showcase the beauty of the country and its age-old traditions and customs. The month of September is jam-packed with some of the most colorful festivals of the year thus calling for fun, fiesta and lot more. Janmasthmi
Janmasthmi is the auspicious occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna and is celebrated with full enthusiasm by the people of Hindu religion all over the country. The best places to witness this festival are Mathura Vrindavan and Mumbai. Prayers and hymns at midnight, celebrations and fasting on the following day, dance-drama enactments on life of Lord Krishna are part of Janmashtami celebrations. The ‘Matki Fod’ celebration in Mumbai is fun part of the festival where people form human pyramid to break open the earthen pots strung high from the buildings.

Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is 11-day festival celebrated to commemorate birth of elephant-headed Lord Ganesha. In the beginning of the festival, idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes and extensively decorated podiums called ‘pandals’ where everyday ‘pooja’ is performed. At the end of the festival that is on ‘Anant Chaturdashi,’ the same idols are immersed in water followed by procession on the streets.

Onam Kala Kettu festival
Held on the 28th day of Onam, the Kala Kettu procession is a harvest thanksgiving festival celebrated in Kerala. Gigantic idols of bulls are made, decorated and displayed in the Parabramha temple. Gogamedi
The Gogamedi fair is held in Ganganagar in Rajasthan to pay tribute to regional hero, Gogaji. Abhaneri Festival
Abhaneri is a remote village in the Dausa district of Rajasthan famous for its stepwell, Chandbaori.
