Best Places to Spot Tigers in India


Around 3,000 tigers live in India, which accounts for 80% of the world's tigers. Our handy guide to the best areas to find tigers in India can help narrow them down to some of our favourite parks where you're more likely to get fortunate with your tiger spotting. There are over 50 recognized Tiger Reserves.
While it may be tempting to visit as many parks as you can during your trip to India, it is better to concentrate on a few and spend two or three days in each. 
Remember that certain park distances can be quite far and the early morning safaris can make the whole thing a little tiresome. For this reason, staying longer in each park will give you more opportunities to see those stripes.

Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan 
Ranthambore National Park is one of the best spots in India to see tigers and it is perfectly located if your itinerary includes the Golden Triangle cities of Agra, Delhi, and Jaipur. It is home to approximately 81 diurnal tigers, who are active throughout the day as opposed to most tigers, which increases your chances of seeing them.

Ranthambore, once the hunting grounds of the Jaipur Maharajas, is one of India's most famous national parks, home to a diverse range of mammals and reptiles, 272 bird species, and around 300 plant species. Aside from nature, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ranthambore Fort is located in its centre and is well worth a visit. The park can get very crowded, so plan ahead of time to secure your time slots for the best zones.

Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh
Bandhavgarh National Park, previously the Maharajas' wildlife reserve, is an excellent spot to view a flash of striped fur because it has one of India's largest tiger populations. According to the most recent count, the park is home to approximately 60 tigers. Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the best places in India to discover tigers because it is relatively small in size compared to the other National Parks and you have a high opportunity of seeing a tiger up close on safari.

Furthermore, the park is home to a large leopard population, 250 distinct bird species, 70 different types of butterflies and a vast range of reptiles.

Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh 
Kanha National Park, also known as Kanha Tiger Reserve, is one of Asia's best-kept national parks and the home of India's renowned Bengal tigers. The deer and antelopes they hunt are accompanied by Indian elephants, sloth bears and numerous birds as they roam the magnificent forests and meadows.
This park is home to 500 of the 6,000 tigers believed to exist worldwide, making it one of the best spots in India to see tigers, and its 30,000 km2 territory encompasses some of India's best tiger habitat.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam
The magnificent Kaziranga National Park, surrounded by the Karbi Anglong mountains and the Brahmaputra River, is one of the greatest spots in India to see tigers. Kaziranga National Park was designated a Tiger Reserve in 2006 and presently boasts the greatest tiger density in the world (1 per 5 km2), with 118 tigers according to the most recent census.

In addition, the park is home to two-thirds of the world's endangered Indian one-horned rhinoceros population, as well as elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer, as well as stunning migrating and resident birds.

Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand 
Last but not the least Jim Corbett National Park, the greatest sites to see tigers in India. According to a report provided by the Union Environment Department, Corbett Tiger Reserve has the most tigers of any of India's 50 tiger reserves, with 252 inside the reserve and 266 outside the reserve.

This unique tiger habitat encompasses 520 square kilometres and comprises hills, meadows, riverine belts, marshy depressions, and a large lake. It is one of India's few tiger reserves that allows overnight stays, giving it a really one-of-a-kind experience for visitors. The park is popular among wildlife enthusiasts since it is home to rare animals such as the endemic fish-eating Crocodile, Leopards, Jungle Cats, Himalayan Tahr, Chital and more.
