History

The Lotus Temple is the last of the seven Bahai temples built. Lotus Temple was designed by an Iranian architect, Fariborz Sahba, and was completed in 1986. 

The lotus flower inspired the temple's design as in Indian culture it represents serenity, and purity. The temple has 27 marble- clad petals and has nine doors that open to a central hall that can accommodate 2500 people. 

The temple has no symbols or deities because the belief of Baha’i people involved focusing on meditation and silent prayers.
