What are the top places to visit in Agra?

Agra is home to three UNESCO world heritage sites, first the Taj Mahal, second the Agra Fort which is situated right in the city, and third is Fatehpur Sikri which is situated nearby Agra.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri was built in the 16th century by emperor Akbar. It derives its name am battle in Gujarat that the king 1 and happily name the city that, meaning the city of victory. After his death, Shah Jahan's body was also laid beside his queen’s and the lovers have said to be united in the afterlife. It is a huge complex comprising of Mughal gardens, the charbhag which were brought to India from Persia. The white marble used in decorating the facade has been transported from a region in Rajasthan and the building is thus one of its kind. Most important thing to know is that the Taj Mahal is closed for entry on Fridays. So plan your day India trip accordingly.

Agra Fort

Your next destination in Agra will be the Agra fort, another UNESCO world heritage site, which is built entirely in red stand sandstone. This amazing fort includes many buildings such as the Moti Mahal, grand halls and palaces and the tomb of Itimad-Ud-Daulah. It also has the Musanman Burj, where Shah Jahan was lastly imprisoned by his son and he died there. It is said that he could look at the Taj Mahal from the prison chambers’ window and thus he died a peaceful death.
