Sikkim Himalayan Discovery Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at Bagdogra and Drive to Gangtok

Arrival at Bagdogra Airport marks the beginning of the journey toward the Eastern Himalayas. After meeting your driver, the route gradually leaves the plains of West Bengal and begins climbing toward the mountain state of Sikkim. The drive follows the course of the Teesta River, whose turquoise waters flow through deep valleys surrounded by forested hills.

As the road winds higher into the mountains, the landscape changes dramatically. Small villages, terraced fields and mist-covered slopes create a beautiful introduction to the Himalayan region. Travelers often stop at scenic viewpoints along the way to observe the river valleys and mountain scenery.

By late afternoon you reach Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Known for its clean streets, Buddhist culture and mountain views, Gangtok offers a relaxed atmosphere that perfectly introduces visitors to the Himalayan lifestyle.

Day 2 Gangtok Local Sightseeing

Morning begins with a tour of the main attractions around Gangtok. One of the most important sites is Rumtek Monastery, a large and impressive Buddhist monastery surrounded by peaceful mountain landscapes. The monastery serves as an important spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhism and attracts visitors from around the world.

Another cultural highlight is the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which preserves rare manuscripts, artifacts and traditional artwork related to Tibetan culture and Buddhist philosophy. Visitors gain insight into the deep spiritual traditions that shape the identity of Sikkim.

The day continues with visits to Tashi View Point and nearby monasteries where travelers may enjoy views of the distant Himalayan peaks when weather conditions are clear.

Day 3 Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass Excursion

Today’s excursion leads into the high mountains surrounding Gangtok. The journey climbs through winding roads surrounded by forests and alpine landscapes until reaching Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake located at high altitude in the Himalayas.

The lake changes colors throughout the year depending on the season and weather. Snow-covered mountains reflect on the surface of the lake, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. Many travelers spend time walking along the lake or simply enjoying the peaceful mountain environment.

The journey continues further to Nathula Pass, a historic mountain pass that once served as part of the ancient Silk Route. Standing near the international border offers a fascinating glimpse into the geography and history of the Himalayan frontier.

Day 4 Gangtok to Pelling

The journey today travels deeper into the mountains toward Pelling, one of the most scenic destinations in Sikkim. The drive passes through forests, villages and mountain ridges while offering occasional views of snow-covered peaks in the distance.

Pelling is known for its spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. The peaceful environment of this small hill town allows travelers to enjoy the surrounding landscapes at a relaxed pace.

After arrival and hotel check-in, the afternoon can be spent visiting nearby viewpoints where the mountain scenery becomes particularly impressive during sunset hours.

Day 5 Pelling Sightseeing

The day begins with visits to several cultural and historical attractions around Pelling. One of the highlights is the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Sikkim. The monastery offers both spiritual significance and beautiful architecture.

Nearby stands the Rabdentse Ruins, the remains of the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim. Walking through the ruins provides insight into the region’s history while offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Later visits include the Singshore Bridge, one of the highest suspension bridges in the region, providing dramatic views of deep gorges and forested landscapes.

Day 6 Pelling to Darjeeling

Today’s route travels from Sikkim into the famous hill region of Darjeeling. The road passes through mountain valleys and tea plantations before gradually climbing toward this historic hill station.

Darjeeling is known worldwide for its tea estates, colonial architecture and views of the Himalayas. The town developed during the British colonial period and still retains much of its historic charm.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.    ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.
