Kaziranga Safari & Meghalaya Adventure Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Guwahati

Arrival at Guwahati Airport marks the beginning of the journey into the northeastern region of India. Situated along the Brahmaputra River, Guwahati is the main entry point for travelers visiting Assam and Meghalaya. After meeting your driver, transfer to your hotel for check-in and relaxation.

Later travelers may visit the historic Kamakhya Temple, located on Nilachal Hill overlooking the Brahmaputra River. The temple complex attracts visitors from across India and offers sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes.

The evening can be spent exploring local markets or enjoying the lively atmosphere of the city before beginning the wildlife journey the following day.

Day 2 Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park

After breakfast the tour continues toward Kaziranga National Park, located several hours east of Guwahati. The road travels through fertile plains where rice fields, villages and small rivers define the countryside of Assam.

As the journey approaches Kaziranga, tall elephant grass and forest areas begin to appear across the landscape. These grasslands form the natural habitat for many species of wildlife living within the national park.

Arrival at your wildlife lodge allows time to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before the safari experience scheduled the next morning.

Day 3 Kaziranga Wildlife Safari

Early morning begins with a jeep safari in Kaziranga National Park guided by experienced forest drivers. The safari moves through wetlands and grasslands where wildlife sightings are common.

Visitors often encounter the famous one-horned rhinoceros, which roams freely across the open grasslands of the park. Other animals such as elephants, swamp deer and wild buffalo may also be seen during the safari.

Later in the afternoon another safari in a different zone of the park offers additional opportunities to observe wildlife and explore the unique ecosystems of Kaziranga.

Day 4 Kaziranga to Shillong

The journey continues toward Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya and one of the most scenic hill stations in North East India. The road gradually climbs from the plains of Assam into the cooler mountain landscapes of the Khasi Hills.

A scenic stop at Umiam Lake provides one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Meghalaya. The lake stretches across a vast valley surrounded by forested hills, creating a calm and picturesque environment.

Arrival in Shillong by afternoon allows travelers to explore the hill town known for its pleasant climate, lively markets and colonial-era charm.

Day 5 Shillong Sightseeing

Morning begins with a visit to Shillong Peak, the highest point in the region. The viewpoint offers panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills.

The tour continues to Elephant Falls, a beautiful multi-level waterfall surrounded by forest trails. Visitors can walk down viewing paths to observe the cascading water from different angles.

Later travelers explore Ward’s Lake and the bustling Police Bazaar market area, where shops, cafés and handicraft stores reflect the local culture of Meghalaya.

Day 6 Shillong to Cherrapunji

Today’s drive leads toward Cherrapunji, famous for its dramatic landscapes and heavy rainfall. The road passes through rolling hills and deep valleys where clouds drift across the plateau.

The first major attraction is Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The water plunges dramatically into a deep gorge below, creating one of the most spectacular views in Meghalaya.

Later visits include Seven Sisters Falls and nearby limestone caves, which demonstrate the geological diversity of the region.

Day 7 Dawki River and Living Root Bridges

Morning begins with a journey toward Dawki, a small border town known for the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. Boats glide across the transparent water, creating the illusion of floating in mid-air.

Travelers enjoy boating on the river while surrounded by lush green hills and peaceful landscapes. The calm environment makes Dawki one of the most photogenic destinations in Meghalaya.

Later the journey continues to the famous Living Root Bridges, natural structures created by guiding tree roots across streams. Walking through forest trails to reach these bridges offers a memorable nature experience.

Day 8 Return to Guwahati and Departure

The final day begins with a scenic drive back to Guwahati. The route gradually descends from the hills of Meghalaya into the plains of Assam.

Travelers pass through countryside landscapes and small villages while enjoying the last views of the region’s dramatic scenery.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.    ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

Our trip with Top Indian Holidays was fantastic. Our family of five, including 3 small kids, visited the Golden Triangle of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience. I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.
