The Best of North & Central India :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Delhi

Upon arrival at Delhi International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you and assist with your transfer to the hotel. India’s capital city introduces travelers to a fascinating blend of Mughal heritage, colonial architecture, luxury hospitality, and modern urban life. After your international journey, the remainder of the day is intentionally planned at a relaxed pace allowing time to settle comfortably before beginning the cultural exploration across North and Central India.

Depending on your arrival timing, enjoy a short orientation drive through New Delhi where broad boulevards, diplomatic districts, and elegant government buildings reflect the city’s colonial-era planning. The contrast between historical monuments and modern infrastructure immediately creates an engaging introduction to India’s layered cultural identity.

Later in the evening, relax at your luxury hotel or enjoy dinner at one of Delhi’s renowned fine-dining restaurants specializing in Indian cuisine. Your tour coordinator will also provide a complete overview of the upcoming heritage journey covering royal cities, sacred temples, and spiritual destinations. Overnight stay in Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi Sightseeing

The morning begins with a guided exploration of Old Delhi where bustling bazaars, Mughal monuments, spice markets, and narrow trading lanes continue to preserve the atmosphere of historic India. Enjoy a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk while observing colorful local life, traditional shops, and lively street markets filled with energy and tradition.

Visit Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest mosques built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The impressive architecture and historical significance of the monument provide excellent insight into Delhi’s Mughal heritage and Islamic architectural traditions.

Later, continue toward New Delhi where broad avenues, colonial-era buildings, and landscaped gardens create a completely different atmosphere from the crowded old city. Visits to India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, and Qutub Minar further reveal Delhi’s architectural richness and UNESCO-recognized heritage. Return to your hotel in the evening for overnight stay.

Day 3 Delhi to Gwalior

After breakfast, transfer to the railway station for your journey to Gwalior, one of India’s most historically important fortress cities. Upon arrival, proceed toward your luxury heritage hotel while observing the city’s impressive hilltop fort dominating the skyline from afar.

Later in the afternoon, begin exploring the magnificent Gwalior Fort, often described as one of India’s most spectacular hill forts. Massive gateways, palaces, temples, reservoirs, and intricate blue-tiled architecture reveal centuries of royal history and military significance. The panoramic views from the fort walls across the surrounding city create excellent photography opportunities.

Continue sightseeing with visits to Man Singh Palace and Sas Bahu Temples where detailed carvings and elegant architectural designs showcase the artistic sophistication of earlier dynasties that ruled Central India. Return to your hotel for overnight stay in Gwalior.

Day 4 Gwalior to Khajuraho

Following breakfast, depart for Khajuraho while passing through the changing landscapes of Central India. The route reveals quieter countryside regions, agricultural villages, and traditional settlements rarely visited during standard tourist itineraries, offering travelers a more authentic glimpse into everyday Indian life.

Upon arrival in Khajuraho, check into your luxury hotel and relax before beginning the evening exploration. Known globally for its UNESCO-listed temples, Khajuraho remains one of India’s finest examples of temple architecture and sculptural artistry from the medieval era.

The evening can be spent enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the town or attending an optional sound and light show introducing the history of the Chandela dynasty and the artistic significance of Khajuraho’s temple complexes. Overnight stay in Khajuraho.

Day 5 Khajuraho Sightseeing

The morning begins with a guided exploration of Khajuraho’s famous temple complexes built between the 10th and 12th centuries. Intricate sculptures, towering spires, and beautifully carved walls reflect extraordinary craftsmanship and artistic imagination. The temples represent themes connected with spirituality, mythology, dance, music, and human life through highly refined stone carvings.

Visit the Western and Eastern Group of Temples where architectural precision and artistic detail continue to fascinate historians, architects, and travelers from around the world. Contrary to common perception, the temples represent a broader philosophical understanding of life, devotion, creativity, and balance.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy leisure time amidst the peaceful surroundings of Khajuraho. Compared to larger Indian cities, the atmosphere here remains calm and ideal for slow-paced cultural exploration. Travelers often appreciate relaxing at their luxury resort while reflecting on the remarkable artistry witnessed during the day. Overnight stay in Khajuraho.

Day 6 Khajuraho to Orchha

After breakfast, continue toward Orchha, a beautifully preserved heritage town located along the banks of the Betwa River. Unlike larger royal cities, Orchha offers a quieter and more intimate atmosphere where ancient palaces, cenotaphs, temples, and riverside landscapes together create an exceptionally scenic setting.

Upon arrival, check into your heritage-style hotel before beginning the sightseeing program. Visit Orchha Fort Complex including Jahangir Mahal, Raj Mahal, and Rai Praveen Mahal where elegant architecture and historic courtyards reveal the royal legacy of Bundela rulers.

Later, explore the riverside cenotaphs lining the Betwa River, especially admired during sunset hours when the changing light creates beautiful reflections over the water. The peaceful environment and lesser-explored charm of Orchha make it one of Central India’s hidden cultural gems. Overnight stay in Orchha.

Day 7 Orchha to Agra

Following breakfast, depart for Agra while traveling through the historic landscapes connecting Central India with the Mughal heartland of Uttar Pradesh. The route passes through smaller towns and rural countryside regions where glimpses of traditional Indian life continue throughout the journey.

Arrive in Agra by evening and check into your luxury hotel. Agra remains internationally admired for its Mughal architecture and timeless historical importance connected with the Taj Mahal and the Mughal Empire.

Later, enjoy a peaceful evening visit to Mehtab Bagh where sunset views of the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna River create a memorable first impression of India’s most iconic monument. Softer evening light and calmer surroundings provide excellent photography opportunities. Overnight stay in Agra.

Day 8 Agra to Jaipur

Early in the morning, visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise when the white marble monument glows beautifully under changing natural light. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal remains one of the greatest architectural masterpieces in the world and an enduring symbol of eternal love.

After breakfast, continue sightseeing with a guided visit to Agra Fort where royal palaces, audience halls, marble pavilions, and riverfront balconies reveal fascinating stories from India’s Mughal period.

Later, depart for Jaipur while stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital built by Emperor Akbar during the 16th century. Massive gateways, mosques, and royal courtyards showcase extraordinary Mughal planning and architectural elegance. Continue onward to Jaipur for overnight stay in a luxury heritage hotel.

Day 9 Jaipur Sightseeing

The morning begins with an excursion to Amber Fort located amidst the Aravalli Hills outside Jaipur. Massive gateways, decorative courtyards, mirror-work halls, and beautifully painted royal chambers reveal the grandeur of Rajput architecture and royal lifestyle from earlier centuries. The elevated position of the fort also offers panoramic views across surrounding hills and lakes, creating excellent photography opportunities.

After returning to the city, continue sightseeing with visits to the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and the iconic Hawa Mahal. The City Palace reflects Jaipur’s royal heritage through elegant courtyards and museums while Jantar Mantar demonstrates India’s remarkable scientific achievements through giant astronomical instruments constructed during the 18th century.

Later in the evening, enjoy a traditional Rajasthani cultural dinner accompanied by folk dance and live music performances. Rich regional cuisine, colorful costumes, and royal-style hospitality together create an immersive cultural experience admired by travelers visiting Rajasthan for the first time. Overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 10 Jaipur to Varanasi

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Varanasi, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and among India’s most sacred spiritual destinations. Located on the banks of the River Ganges, Varanasi presents a completely different atmosphere compared to the royal cities visited earlier during the journey.

Upon arrival, transfer to your luxury hotel before proceeding toward the ghats in the evening. Ancient riverside steps, sacred shrines, flower vendors, priests, and pilgrims together create an environment deeply connected with spirituality and tradition. Walking through the narrow lanes of the old city reveals a timeless atmosphere that continues to attract pilgrims from across India.

At sunset, attend the famous Ganga Aarti ceremony where priests perform synchronized rituals using lamps, incense, chants, and sacred fire beside the flowing River Ganges. The illuminated ghats, devotional energy, and spiritual atmosphere create one of the most unforgettable moments of any North India cultural tour. Overnight stay in Varanasi.

Day 11 Varanasi Sightseeing

Before sunrise, enjoy an early morning boat ride on the River Ganges while witnessing pilgrims performing holy rituals, prayers, meditation, and ceremonial bathing along the ghats. As daylight slowly spreads across the ancient riverside city, the atmosphere feels deeply spiritual and timeless. The scenes witnessed from the boat provide a rare and authentic glimpse into India’s living spiritual traditions.

After breakfast, continue exploring the old city of Varanasi including sacred temples, narrow lanes, local markets, and silk weaving areas. Your guide will explain the spiritual significance of different ghats and rituals that continue uninterrupted after thousands of years. The combination of ancient traditions and daily life creates an atmosphere unlike any other city in India.

Later in the afternoon, proceed for an excursion to Sarnath, one of Buddhism’s most sacred pilgrimage destinations where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Ancient ruins, monasteries, landscaped gardens, and peaceful temple complexes create a calm and reflective atmosphere. Return to your hotel in the evening for overnight stay in Varanasi.

Day 12 Varanasi to Delhi

Following breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Delhi. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. After several days of forts, temples, royal cities, sacred rituals, and heritage exploration, the final evening allows travelers time to relax before international departure.

Depending on your interests, you may choose to enjoy shopping, visit cafés, or simply relax at the hotel while reflecting on the journey through North and Central India. The itinerary combines Mughal grandeur, Rajput heritage, temple artistry, sacred traditions, and authentic local experiences in a seamless and highly rewarding manner.

The evening is ideal for enjoying a farewell dinner while revisiting memories from Gwalior Fort, Khajuraho temples, Orchha’s riverside palaces, Jaipur’s royal architecture, and the spiritual ceremonies of Varanasi. Overnight stay in Delhi.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
