Recommended Accommodation: The Leela Palace, Chennai

Day 2 Chennai Sightseeing

Following a leisurely morning, embark on a city tour of Chennai with your guide, starting at Fort St. George. Originally constructed in 1640, the fort served as the British East India Company's first stronghold in southern India. Today, the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu and the Secretariat are housed there. See St. Mary's Church, one of the earliest British structures in India, which was dedicated in 1680. Explore the National Art Gallery after that. Its displays cover all of the important South Indian periods, such as the Chalukya, Hoysala, Vijayanagara, and Chola. Proceed to Kapaleeswara, the largest Shiva temple in Chennai, which is renowned for its exquisitely carved gopuram (monumental tower). Visit the serene Santhome Cathedral, named for St. Thomas the Apostle, whose tomb is rumored to be located beneath the cathedral. It was constructed by the Portuguese. Built-in the Gothic style, this famous pilgrimage site lies 155 feet above the busy city below its calm white spire.

Recommended Accommodation: The Leela Palace, Chennai

Day 3 Day trip to Mahabalipuram

After breakfast, take a land excursion to the coastal village of Mahabalipuram to see its Group of Monuments, which has been included to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Take in the sight of Bhagiratha's Penance, a bas-relief carved on enormous rocks that depicts gods, saints, and animals in life-size as they watch the holy Ganges River pour from the Himalayas. See its nearby shallow mandaps (pillared halls), built out of a rocky hillside and depicting stories from Indian mythology. Finally, stop at the Shore Temple, which is surrounded by historically inspired gardens. Return to Chennai, making a lunch stop along the way.

Recommended Accommodation: The Leela Palace, Chennai

Day 4 Trichy sightseeing and transfer to Thanjavur

Take a flight to Trichy and have lunch at a local restaurant. With your guide, see this energetic riverfront city located in the heart of Tamil Nadu. See Srirangam, renowned for its massive Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, which appears to be a full city and is home to 49 other Vishnu shrines. Views are included of the beautiful Rock Fort Temple, perched atop a sizable rocky outcropping and overlooking the old city. Visit Thanjavur, the location of the former capital of the Chola dynasty.

Recommended Accommodation: Svatma, Thanjavur

Day 5 Thanjavur Sightseeing

Thanjavur, with its 74 temples, is a testament to the Cholas' prowess as builders of temples. You go to the most well-known of them today, the Brihadeeswarar Temple, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then visit an art gallery to see its amazing collection of vintage bronze statues. Take pleasure in your free afternoon.

Recommended Accommodation: Svatma, Thanjavur

Day 6 Chettinad and Madurai

Travel by land to Chettinad, the Chettiars' ancestral home, after breakfast. Residency to affluent business magnates who gained their fortune in Burma in the previous century, the region is well-known for its opulent homes and delectable, unique food. View these amazing residences featuring marble accents and teak pillars. Proceed to Madurai after lunch, where you will check into your accommodation. Visit the Meenakshi Temple this evening to take in a pooja event, where a colorful procession of Shiva idol is carried by musicians.

Recommended Accommodation: The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai, Madurai

Day 7 Madurai Sightseeing

With your guide, go on a morning stroll across Madurai. Discover both history and mythology as you explore this ancient Tamil capital. Following breakfast, return to your Madurai lodging to take in the stunning seventeenth-century Meenakshi Amman Temple. This 15-acre edifice pays ecstatic devotion to Shiva and the triple-breasted goddess Meenakshi. It is the greatest temple complex in southern India and holds equal significance to the architectural legacy of the region as the Taj Mahal does in northern India.

Recommended Accommodation: The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai, Madurai

Day 8 Periyar Sightseeing

After breakfast, drive overland to Periyar in the state of Kerala, where you will check into your lodging. The Western Ghats, a verdant mountain range rising parallel to India's Arabian Sea coast, are the next stop on your tour. Recommended Accommodation: Spice Village

Day 9 Transfer to Kumarakom

After a leisurely breakfast, travel overland to the village of Kumarakom, which is situated atop a magnificent escarpment. Get up early today and take a walking tour of Kochi, stopping at local markets, riding the ferry, and seeing the fisherman at work. Savor a breakfast that is traditionally South Indian. Explore Kochi, a tropical seaside city, during the day to learn about its fascinating fusion of cultural influences. Explore one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in India, which is encircled by a fragrant spice market and has blue porcelain Chinese tiles decorating it. The Portuguese built St. Francis Church and the lovely Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace) in the sixteenth century. See the story of Ramayana illustrated in the artwork inside. Traders transported cantilevered fishing nets from southern China to Kochi harbor's entrance, demonstrating the centuries-old connection between these two locations. See a performance by the lavishly costumed Kathakali dancers tonight at Greenix Theater.

Recommended Accommodation: Brunton Boatyard

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More

Top Indian Holiday helped us plan our fantastic 15 day trip to India. From the very beginning, Nand worked with us to create a trip within our budget and interests, guiding us through all of the trip logistics. He responded to our inquiries quickly and honestly. In India, we had a professional driver who accommodated our travel schedule. We mostly stayed in 4-star hotels and havelis, often in the company of other Indian travelers, enriching our experience. We were in touch with Nand throughout the trip and he was able to make adjustments to hotels when they weren’t at the level promised. One frustration was that some of the guides’ English language skills were weak, hurting their ability to give us the best information about the cities and historical sites. If you want a responsive, personalized trip, we recommend using Top Indian Holiday!  ...Read More

My husband, our 20-year-old son, and I had a wonderful trip to India in late October this year. We visited Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, and also spent a couple of days in Ranthambore hoping to spot a tiger, though luck wasn’t on our side this time. Nand and his team provided exceptional personal service from the very beginning of our planning and throughout our time in India. We stayed in some nice hotels, but on one occasion the standard didn’t meet our expectations. Nand immediately arranged a more suitable alternative, which we greatly appreciated. When our son realised he had forgotten his medication at home, Nand and Ram stepped in to help; thanks to them, we were able to see a local doctor and obtain the medication we needed, something well beyond the planned itinerary. We also fell in love with a local candy during the trip, and the team surprised us by arranging some for us to take home, which was such a thoughtful touch. The last hotel on our trip, the Trident Gurgaon, another recommendation by Nand, truly stood out. It was the perfect place to switch off, relax, and feel completely pampered before heading home. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive, the cocktails and food were fantastic, and the pool was an absolute highlight. A gorgeous hotel with service that was just as impressive and conveniently located for Delhi International airport. Ram, our driver, navigated Delhi’s chaotic traffic and handled the long drives between cities with remarkable ease. We have no idea how he managed to stay so calm throughout—keep up the great work, Ram! Old Delhi (fun and chaotic), Taj Mahal (simply stunning) and the food were the highlights of our trip and we look forward to visiting India soon again.  ...Read More

We had a fantastic experience with Top Indian Holidays. Nand helped us settle in on itinerary (Delhi, Jaipur, Ranthambore Tiger safari, and Agra), and provided our driver and local guides. Our driver Ram was consistently on time, very kind, and attentive—he did a wonderful job pointing out sights along the way and adjusting our itinerary whenever we had special requests. The car was also extremely comfortable, clean, and cool, which made our long travel days very enjoyable. We also appreciated that the rest stops were clean and not overly pushy with shopping. Nand’s communication before and during the trip was excellent. Overall, we truly enjoyed our experience and happily recommend Top Indian Holidays as an LGBTQ+ friendly service as well.  ...Read More

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.   ...Read More

I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More
