South India Royal Heritage and Palace Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Hyderabad

Upon arrival at Hyderabad International Airport, guests are warmly welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Hyderabad, once ruled by the powerful Nizams, remains one of India’s grandest historical cities where royal palaces, Islamic architecture, bustling bazaars, and luxury hospitality coexist beautifully. After check-in, guests can relax and settle comfortably into the journey.

Later in the afternoon, begin an introductory exploration of the city with a visit to the iconic Charminar, one of Hyderabad’s most recognizable landmarks. Built in the 16th century, the monument stands at the heart of the old city surrounded by traditional markets, pearl traders, spice shops, and centuries-old streets. The atmosphere reflects Hyderabad’s deep cultural identity shaped by Persian, Mughal, and Deccan influences.

The evening continues with a curated dining experience featuring Hyderabadi cuisine, famous globally for its royal culinary traditions and rich flavors. Fine dining restaurants across the city blend traditional recipes with luxury presentation, creating a memorable introduction to South India’s regal heritage. Overnight stay in Hyderabad.

Day 2 Hyderabad Sightseeing

Morning begins with breakfast followed by a detailed exploration of Hyderabad’s royal and historical attractions. Start with the magnificent Golconda Fort, once considered among the strongest fortifications in India and closely connected with the region’s diamond trade history. Massive gateways, royal halls, secret chambers, and panoramic viewpoints showcase the military and architectural brilliance of the Deccan rulers.

Continue toward Chowmahalla Palace, the ceremonial residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad. The palace complex reflects a fascinating blend of Persian, European, and Mughal influences with grand courtyards, chandeliers, vintage royal carriages, and intricately decorated halls. Your private guide explains the luxurious lifestyle and political influence of the Nizams who were once among the wealthiest rulers in the world.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Salar Jung Museum which houses one of India’s finest collections of royal artifacts, sculptures, manuscripts, paintings, and antiques gathered from around the globe. Return to the hotel in the evening for leisure time and overnight stay in Hyderabad.

Day 3 Hyderabad to Hampi

After breakfast, depart for the legendary heritage destination of Hampi, once the capital of the powerful Vijayanagara Empire. The overland journey gradually transitions from urban landscapes into the rocky countryside of Karnataka where dramatic boulder formations and ancient ruins begin to dominate the scenery.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage-style resort located amidst the unique landscape of Hampi. The destination feels unlike anywhere else in India, with giant stone boulders, ancient temples, royal ruins, and riverside settlements spread across vast open terrain. Hampi’s surreal geography combined with its historical significance creates a deeply atmospheric experience.

The evening remains relaxed to allow guests to absorb the surroundings and enjoy sunset views across the rocky landscape. Luxury properties in Hampi are intentionally designed to preserve the calm and spiritual atmosphere of the region while offering modern comfort and refined hospitality. Dinner and overnight stay in Hampi.

Day 4 Hampi Heritage Exploration

Morning sightseeing begins with a detailed exploration of Hampi’s UNESCO World Heritage ruins. Once among the wealthiest cities in the world during the 14th and 15th centuries, Hampi still preserves extraordinary remnants of temples, royal pavilions, markets, water structures, and ceremonial complexes spread across the landscape.

Visit the famous Virupaksha Temple, still active as a place of worship and considered one of the oldest functioning temples in India. Continue toward the Vittala Temple Complex known for its iconic stone chariot and musical pillars. The intricate carvings and engineering techniques displayed throughout the ruins reveal the artistic sophistication of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Later in the afternoon, explore the Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Queen’s Bath, and the royal enclosure area while your guide explains the political and cultural importance of Hampi during its golden era. Sunset from Hemakuta Hill provides breathtaking views across the temple ruins and dramatic granite terrain. Overnight stay in Hampi.

Day 5 Hampi to Badami

After breakfast, continue toward Badami, one of Karnataka’s most historically significant heritage towns known for its ancient cave temples and sandstone cliffs. The drive passes through rural landscapes and traditional villages before reaching the red sandstone formations surrounding Badami Lake.

Upon arrival, check into a boutique heritage hotel before beginning an afternoon exploration of the famous Badami Cave Temples. Carved directly into sandstone cliffs during the Chalukya dynasty, these cave temples display remarkable sculptures dedicated to Hindu and Jain traditions. Intricate carvings, pillars, and rock-cut sanctuaries reveal the architectural mastery of early South Indian kingdoms.

The calm setting around Agastya Lake creates a highly atmospheric experience during sunset hours. Compared to larger tourist destinations, Badami feels quieter and more immersive, allowing travelers to appreciate its heritage without crowds. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Badami.

Day 6 Badami and Pattadakal Excursion

Morning begins with breakfast followed by an excursion to Pattadakal and Aihole, two of the most important temple heritage regions in Karnataka. These ancient sites played a major role in the evolution of South Indian temple architecture and remain historically invaluable for understanding early Hindu temple design.

Pattadakal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases an extraordinary collection of temples combining northern and southern architectural styles. The detailed carvings, symmetrical layouts, and historical inscriptions provide deep insight into Chalukya artistic achievements. Your private guide explains how these monuments influenced temple construction across India for centuries afterward.

Continue toward Aihole, often referred to as the “cradle of Indian temple architecture,” where hundreds of early temples and shrines are spread across a peaceful village setting. The remainder of the evening is reserved for relaxation back in Badami while enjoying the slower rhythm of Karnataka’s heritage countryside. Overnight stay in Badami.

Day 7 Badami to Mysore

After breakfast, depart for the royal city of Mysore, historically associated with the Wodeyar dynasty and royal Karnataka culture. The journey reveals changing landscapes from rocky heritage regions to greener agricultural plains and elegant urban avenues as you approach Mysore.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury palace-style hotel inspired by royal Mysore architecture. The city carries a refined atmosphere shaped by grand palaces, broad boulevards, traditional silk markets, and royal heritage structures. Mysore is often considered one of India’s most graceful and well-planned heritage cities.

Later in the evening, visit the magnificent Mysore Palace, beautifully illuminated after sunset. Lavish interiors, stained glass ceilings, royal halls, carved doors, and ceremonial courtyards showcase the grandeur once enjoyed by the Wodeyar rulers. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 8 Mysore Sightseeing

Morning sightseeing begins with Chamundi Hills where the hilltop temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari overlooks the city below. The site combines spiritual importance with panoramic views across Mysore’s elegant urban landscape and surrounding countryside.

Continue toward the bustling Devaraja Market, famous for sandalwood products, flowers, silk textiles, spices, and traditional crafts. Unlike modern commercial centers, the market preserves Mysore’s old trading culture and vibrant local atmosphere. Guests often enjoy interacting with artisans and observing the colorful daily life of the city.

Later in the afternoon, visit Brindavan Gardens where landscaped lawns, fountains, and peaceful surroundings create a relaxing experience. Return to the hotel in the evening where guests can enjoy luxury spa therapies or refined dining experiences inspired by Karnataka royal cuisine. Overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 9 Mysore to Chennai

After breakfast, depart from Mysore and proceed toward Chennai, returning once again to the eastern coastline of South India. The route passes through changing landscapes including countryside villages, agricultural plains, and smaller temple towns before gradually entering the modern urban atmosphere of Tamil Nadu’s capital city. The journey allows guests to observe another regional shift in culture, language, cuisine, and architecture.

Upon arrival in Chennai, check into a luxury hotel located in one of the city’s premium districts. Compared to the royal atmosphere of Mysore, Chennai feels more cosmopolitan while still deeply connected to classical South Indian traditions. The city has long served as a center for Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam dance, temple culture, literature, and fine arts. After check-in, guests can relax and enjoy the comfort of the hotel before beginning evening activities.

Later, enjoy a curated cultural dining experience featuring refined Tamil cuisine presented in a contemporary luxury setting. Traditional dishes from Chettinad and coastal Tamil Nadu are introduced with modern presentation while musicians and classical performances can be arranged privately upon request. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 10 Chennai to Pondicherry

Morning departure takes guests toward the charming coastal town of Pondicherry, one of the most elegant and visually distinctive destinations in South India. The scenic coastal highway running along the Bay of Bengal creates a relaxed drive filled with sea views, fishing villages, and palm-lined stretches. As guests enter Pondicherry, the atmosphere immediately changes from metropolitan energy to colonial calmness.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage property located within the historic French Quarter. White colonial mansions, mustard-colored villas, quiet boulevards, and stylish cafés give Pondicherry an ambiance unlike any other Indian city. The destination reflects the influence of French colonial history blended naturally with Tamil culture and spirituality.

Later in the afternoon, begin a guided walking exploration through the French Quarter while learning about Pondicherry’s colonial history, architecture, and artistic identity. Visit the seaside promenade, old churches, and heritage streets lined with boutique cafés and galleries. Evening remains free for relaxed dining and leisure beside the coastline. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 11 Pondicherry Exploration

After breakfast, continue exploring the spiritual and artistic side of Pondicherry. Begin with a visit to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, one of India’s most respected spiritual institutions known for meditation, philosophy, and peaceful surroundings. The calm atmosphere provides a meaningful contrast after several days of palace and historical exploration.

Continue toward Auroville, an experimental international township created with the vision of universal harmony and sustainable living. Guests may explore selected areas of the community while learning about its unique architecture, philosophy, and environmental initiatives. The surrounding artisan boutiques, organic cafés, and handcrafted design stores create a highly creative atmosphere.

The afternoon remains intentionally relaxed to preserve the slower luxury rhythm of the journey. Guests may choose private wellness treatments, photography walks through colonial lanes, or quiet café experiences within the French Quarter. Pondicherry’s blend of culture, spirituality, and coastal elegance makes it one of the most refined destinations of the itinerary. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 12 Pondicherry Leisure and Coastal Experiences

The day begins with a leisurely breakfast followed by optional coastal and cultural experiences designed around guest interests. Travelers seeking relaxation may spend the morning at a private beach retreat or wellness spa while others may prefer exploring artisan markets, antique stores, and handcrafted textile boutiques located across the town.

Guests interested in culinary experiences can enjoy curated South Indian and French fusion cooking sessions where traditional Tamil flavors are presented with European techniques and styling. Pondicherry’s unique culinary identity has evolved over centuries through the blending of French influence and local coastal traditions. Gourmet seafood, handcrafted desserts, and regional specialties make dining here especially memorable.

As evening approaches, guests can enjoy a final luxury dinner overlooking the Bay of Bengal while reflecting on the royal, spiritual, architectural, and cultural experiences covered throughout the journey. Soft sea breeze, colonial surroundings, and elegant hospitality create a perfect atmosphere for the concluding night of the tour. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 13 Departure from Chennai

After breakfast, guests are transferred privately from Pondicherry to Chennai International Airport for onward departure. The coastal drive back toward Chennai remains peaceful and scenic, offering a final glimpse into South India’s changing landscapes and relaxed rhythm of life.

Throughout this luxury heritage journey, travelers have witnessed multiple dimensions of Southern India including the royal grandeur of Hyderabad, the magnificent ruins of Hampi, the ancient cave temples of Badami, the regal elegance of Mysore, and the colonial charm of Pondicherry. Each destination contributed a distinct historical and cultural identity while maintaining premium hospitality and carefully paced travel experiences.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service.   Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
