South India Luxury Road Trip Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Chennai

Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, guests are warmly welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Chennai introduces travelers to South India through its coastal atmosphere, cultural heritage, colonial architecture, and elegant hospitality.

After check-in, guests may relax after their international journey while enjoying the comfort and premium facilities of the hotel. The slower pace of the itinerary begins immediately, allowing travelers to settle comfortably before the scenic road journey across South India officially begins.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a curated dinner featuring traditional Tamil cuisine and coastal specialties served within an elegant luxury setting. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 2 Chennai to Pondicherry

After breakfast, begin the scenic coastal drive toward Pondicherry along the beautiful East Coast Road running beside the Bay of Bengal. This route is considered one of South India’s most picturesque highways with sea views, fishing villages, palm-lined stretches, and coastal landscapes accompanying the journey.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel located within the French Quarter. Pondicherry’s white colonial villas, quiet boulevards, artistic cafés, and seaside promenades create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in India.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a guided heritage walk through the French Quarter while learning about the town’s colonial history, architecture, and cultural identity. Evening remains free for café experiences and seaside dining. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 3 Pondicherry Leisure Day

Morning begins with breakfast followed by a slower day designed around relaxation and cultural exploration. Guests may visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, artisan boutiques, art galleries, and handcrafted textile stores spread throughout the town.

Pondicherry’s relaxed coastal rhythm naturally encourages slower travel and meaningful exploration rather than rushed sightseeing. The town’s combination of French heritage and Tamil culture creates one of South India’s most refined leisure destinations.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a French-Indian fusion dining experience featuring coastal cuisine and elegant presentation. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 4 Pondicherry to Madurai

After breakfast, continue the road journey toward the historic temple city of Madurai. The route gradually leaves the coastline behind and passes through Tamil Nadu’s agricultural plains, temple towns, and countryside villages.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before beginning an evening visit to the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple. Towering gateway structures covered with thousands of sculptures dominate the skyline while evening rituals create a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

The temple’s architecture, devotional ceremonies, music, and illuminated corridors create one of South India’s most unforgettable cultural experiences. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 5 Madurai Cultural Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by exploration of Madurai’s heritage and cultural landmarks. Visit traditional markets, heritage neighborhoods, and the Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace where massive pillars and royal courtyards reflect the grandeur of the Nayak rulers.

Guests may also explore local textile markets and culinary spaces where Tamil culture remains deeply rooted in everyday life. Compared to coastal Pondicherry, Madurai presents a more spiritual and temple-centered atmosphere.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy another optional temple visit or cultural performance before returning to the hotel. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 6 Madurai to Munnar

After breakfast, begin one of the most scenic sections of the road trip while driving toward Munnar in Kerala. The route gradually climbs through mountain roads, waterfalls, spice plantations, and tea-covered valleys while cooler weather begins replacing the warmer plains of Tamil Nadu.

As guests enter Kerala’s Western Ghats region, landscapes transform dramatically into mist-covered hills and endless green tea estates. The drive itself becomes a major highlight of the journey because of the constantly changing scenery and panoramic mountain views.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury plantation resort surrounded by tea gardens and valley landscapes. Evening remains free for relaxation amidst the peaceful hills and cool mountain atmosphere. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 7 Munnar Sightseeing

Morning begins with breakfast overlooking the tea-covered hills before starting scenic exploration of Munnar’s attractions including Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, and tea plantation viewpoints.

Guests may enjoy plantation walks, photography stops, and tea tasting experiences while learning about the history of tea cultivation in Kerala. Munnar’s cooler climate and peaceful environment make it especially popular among luxury leisure travelers.

The afternoon remains intentionally relaxed allowing guests to enjoy wellness therapies or quiet leisure time within the plantation resort. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 8 Munnar to Alleppey

After breakfast, descend gradually from the hills toward Kerala’s famous backwater destination of Alleppey. The route passes waterfalls, spice plantations, rivers, and tropical countryside before entering the peaceful canal networks of the backwaters.

Upon arrival, guests board a luxury private houseboat featuring spacious suites, elegant dining spaces, and panoramic viewing decks. The slower rhythm of the backwaters creates a deeply relaxing contrast after the mountain drives of Munnar.

As the houseboat glides through canals and lagoons, guests observe Kerala village life unfolding beside the waterways while enjoying freshly prepared local cuisine onboard. Overnight stay onboard the luxury houseboat in Alleppey.

Day 9 Alleppey to Kochi

Morning breakfast onboard the luxury houseboat is followed by disembarkation and continuation of the road journey toward the historic coastal city of Kochi. The drive remains peaceful as canals, coconut groves, fishing villages, and tropical backwater landscapes gradually transition into Kerala’s historic harbor region.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel located within the Fort Kochi district. Kochi feels distinctly different from the mountain and backwater regions visited earlier because of its multicultural maritime identity shaped by Portuguese, Dutch, Arab, and British influence over centuries.

Later in the afternoon, begin a guided heritage walk through Fort Kochi where colonial buildings, art cafés, spice warehouses, boutique stores, and waterfront promenades create a sophisticated and artistic atmosphere. Guests may visit the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets and old churches while learning about Kochi’s importance in the global spice trade. Evening remains free for seafood dining beside the Arabian Sea. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 10 Kochi to Ooty

After breakfast, begin another scenic road journey toward the famous hill station of Ooty in the Nilgiri Hills. The route gradually leaves Kerala’s tropical coastline behind and climbs into cooler mountain landscapes filled with forests, valleys, waterfalls, and tea plantations.

This section of the road trip remains especially rewarding for scenic travel lovers because of the dramatic transitions in climate, vegetation, and landscapes throughout the drive. Winding roads through the Western Ghats reveal panoramic mountain views and peaceful countryside scenery rarely experienced through ordinary city travel.

Upon arrival in Ooty, check into a luxury colonial-style resort surrounded by gardens and valley views. The cool weather, eucalyptus forests, and colonial atmosphere create a refreshing contrast after Kerala’s tropical lowlands. Overnight stay in Ooty.

Day 11 Ooty Sightseeing

Morning begins with breakfast followed by sightseeing across Ooty’s scenic attractions including the Government Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake, and selected panoramic viewpoints spread across the Nilgiri Hills.

Guests may enjoy boating experiences, plantation walks, tea tasting sessions, and photography stops while learning about Ooty’s colonial-era history as a British summer retreat. The peaceful mountain environment and cooler climate make Ooty especially relaxing for luxury travelers.

Later in the afternoon, guests may return to the resort for leisure time, spa therapies, or private dining experiences overlooking the mist-covered hills. Overnight stay in Ooty.

Day 12 Ooty to Mysore

After breakfast, continue the scenic drive toward the royal heritage city of Mysore. The route descends gradually through forest landscapes and countryside roads while offering occasional wildlife sightings and panoramic views.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury palace-style hotel before beginning an evening exploration of the magnificent Mysore Palace. Illuminated beautifully after sunset, the palace showcases royal halls, stained glass ceilings, chandeliers, carved doors, and ceremonial spaces reflecting the grandeur of Karnataka’s royal heritage.

Mysore’s calm atmosphere, broad avenues, and heritage architecture create a graceful transition after the mountain landscapes of Ooty. Overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 13 Mysore Cultural Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by exploration of Mysore’s cultural attractions and traditional markets. Guests may visit local silk stores, sandalwood workshops, and artisan districts associated with Karnataka’s royal heritage and craftsmanship traditions.

Compared to the coastal and plantation regions covered earlier, Mysore introduces a more regal and historically refined atmosphere centered around palaces, cultural institutions, and heritage architecture. The city remains one of South India’s most elegant urban destinations.

Later in the afternoon, guests may enjoy leisure time within the luxury hotel or optional wellness experiences before another relaxed evening in Mysore. Overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 14 Mysore to Bangalore

After breakfast, continue toward Bangalore, gradually leaving the royal heritage atmosphere of Mysore behind and entering Karnataka’s cosmopolitan capital city. The drive remains smooth and comfortable with countryside landscapes and smaller towns appearing along the route.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury hotel within Bangalore’s premium district. The city’s modern atmosphere, tree-lined avenues, luxury dining culture, and pleasant weather create a sophisticated conclusion to the extensive South India road journey.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy luxury shopping, fine dining experiences, or relaxed exploration of Bangalore’s cultural and urban districts. Overnight stay in Bangalore.

Day 15 Bangalore Leisure Day

The day remains intentionally flexible allowing guests to relax after the long scenic road journey across South India. After breakfast, travelers may choose optional experiences including garden visits, wellness therapies, café exploration, or luxury shopping experiences.

Bangalore’s calmer climate and modern infrastructure provide a comfortable environment for leisure activities before departure. Guests may also revisit selected cultural districts or simply enjoy quiet relaxation within the hotel.

Later in the evening, a farewell dining experience can be arranged featuring curated Karnataka cuisine and contemporary South Indian flavors served within an elegant luxury setting. Overnight stay in Bangalore.

Day 16 Bangalore Leisure and Optional Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by another relaxed day designed around guest interests and comfort. Unlike rushed travel schedules, this luxury road trip intentionally includes slower final days to maintain a balanced and comfortable pace throughout the itinerary.

Guests may enjoy optional cultural visits, wellness experiences, or simply spend time reflecting on the diverse landscapes and experiences covered across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. The combination of coastal highways, temple cities, tea plantations, backwaters, and mountain roads makes this road trip one of South India’s most immersive luxury journeys.

Evening remains free for leisure and overnight stay in Bangalore.

Day 17 Departure from Bangalore

After breakfast, private transfer arrangements are provided to Bangalore International Airport for onward departure. Assistance is offered throughout the checkout and transfer process to ensure a smooth conclusion to the luxury South India road trip.

During the past eighteen days, travelers have experienced scenic coastal highways, plantation hills, tropical backwaters, colonial towns, royal heritage cities, and mountain landscapes while enjoying carefully paced luxury travel and premium hospitality throughout the journey.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

Our trip with Top Indian Holidays was fantastic. Our family of five, including 3 small kids, visited the Golden Triangle of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience. I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.   We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
