South India Cultural and Classical Dance Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Chennai

Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, guests are warmly welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Chennai remains one of India’s most important cultural capitals and serves as the center of Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam dance, Tamil literature, and classical South Indian artistic traditions.

After check-in, guests may relax and recover from their international journey while enjoying the comfort and elegance of the luxury property. The atmosphere of Chennai immediately introduces travelers to South India’s cultural rhythm through temple architecture, traditional attire, classical music, and artistic heritage visible throughout the city.

Later in the evening, guests may attend a curated classical music or Bharatanatyam performance depending on seasonal availability. Graceful dance movements, traditional costumes, live percussion, and expressive storytelling provide a memorable first introduction to South India’s performing arts traditions. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 2 Chennai Cultural Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by a guided exploration of Chennai’s cultural landmarks. Visit the famous Kapaleeshwarar Temple where Dravidian architecture, colorful sculptures, and spiritual traditions create one of the city’s most visually striking experiences.

Continue toward cultural districts associated with classical dance schools, music academies, and traditional artistic institutions. Guests may also visit local silk boutiques and handcrafted jewelry stores closely connected with Bharatanatyam performance traditions and Tamil ceremonial culture.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a curated South Indian culinary session introducing regional flavors and traditional dining customs. Chennai’s refined artistic atmosphere combined with luxury hospitality creates a highly immersive cultural experience. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 3 Chennai to Mahabalipuram

After breakfast, depart toward the UNESCO heritage destination of Mahabalipuram located along the scenic Coromandel Coast. The coastal drive remains peaceful and visually rewarding while gradually introducing the ancient artistic legacy of the Pallava dynasty.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury beachside resort before beginning an exploration of Mahabalipuram’s extraordinary stone monuments. Visit the Shore Temple, Five Rathas, and Arjuna’s Penance where intricate carvings and rock-cut architecture reveal the remarkable artistic mastery of early South Indian sculptors.

The artistic atmosphere of Mahabalipuram feels deeply connected with stone craftsmanship and temple architecture. Guests may later interact with local sculptors whose families have preserved traditional carving techniques for generations. Evening remains free for beachside relaxation and overnight stay in Mahabalipuram.

Day 4 Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry

Morning departure takes guests toward the elegant coastal town of Pondicherry, one of South India’s most distinctive cultural destinations. French colonial influence, artistic cafés, spiritual centers, and quiet seaside streets create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in India.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage property located within the French Quarter. White colonial mansions, tree-lined boulevards, colorful cafés, and art galleries create a refined and relaxed environment ideal for slower cultural exploration.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a guided heritage walk through Pondicherry’s colonial districts while learning about French influence, architecture, literature, and spiritual traditions associated with the town. Evening remains free for café experiences, boutique exploration, and relaxed seaside dining. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 5 Pondicherry Artistic and Spiritual Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by visits to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and selected artisan spaces across Pondicherry. The destination’s artistic identity blends spirituality, design, philosophy, and creative expression within one peaceful coastal environment.

Guests may visit handcrafted paper studios, textile boutiques, ceramic workshops, and contemporary art galleries showcasing the town’s creative culture. Pondicherry’s slower rhythm naturally encourages meaningful interaction with local artistic traditions rather than rushed sightseeing.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a curated French-Indian fusion dining experience combining coastal Tamil flavors with European culinary influence. The elegant ambiance and artistic atmosphere create one of the most memorable cultural evenings of the journey. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 6 Pondicherry to Thanjavur

After breakfast, continue toward Thanjavur, historically one of South India’s greatest centers of temple architecture, bronze sculpture, and classical arts under the Chola Empire. The drive passes through fertile countryside landscapes and temple towns deeply connected with Tamil heritage.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before visiting the magnificent Brihadeeswarar Temple, one of India’s greatest architectural masterpieces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Massive stone structures, intricate carvings, and artistic precision reveal the sophistication of Chola-era craftsmanship.

Later in the afternoon, guests may visit workshops known for traditional Tanjore paintings and bronze sculpture-making techniques preserved for centuries. The artistic heritage of Thanjavur remains deeply alive through local artisans and temple traditions. Overnight stay in Thanjavur.

Day 7 Thanjavur to Madurai

Morning departure takes guests toward the ancient city of Madurai, one of South India’s most important cultural and spiritual centers. The journey reveals temple towns, agricultural landscapes, and traditional Tamil countryside before entering the historic city.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before beginning an evening visit to the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple. Towering gateway structures covered with thousands of colorful sculptures dominate the skyline while devotional rituals create a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

As evening ceremonies begin, chanting, music, lamps, and temple processions transform the temple complex into an extraordinary cultural experience. The combination of architecture, spirituality, and living artistic traditions makes Madurai one of South India’s most powerful destinations. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 8 Madurai Cultural Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by exploration of Madurai’s artistic and cultural identity beyond the temple complex. Visit traditional markets, textile districts, and heritage neighborhoods associated with centuries of Tamil craftsmanship and trade.

Guests may also visit the Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace where massive pillars, royal courtyards, and Indo-Saracenic architectural details showcase the grandeur of the Nayak rulers. Local guides explain how dance, music, and temple festivals historically shaped Madurai’s social and cultural life.

Later in the evening, guests may attend another curated Bharatanatyam or folk dance performance within a heritage setting. The artistic richness of Madurai combined with luxury hospitality creates a deeply immersive cultural experience. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 9 Madurai to Kochi

After breakfast, depart from Madurai and continue toward the historic coastal city of Kochi in Kerala. The journey gradually transitions from Tamil Nadu’s temple landscapes into Kerala’s tropical scenery filled with coconut groves, rivers, spice plantations, and lush countryside villages. The changing landscapes beautifully reflect the cultural diversity of South India itself.

Upon arrival in Kochi, check into a luxury heritage hotel located within the historic Fort Kochi district. Unlike the temple-focused atmosphere of Tamil Nadu, Kochi introduces a more cosmopolitan and maritime cultural identity shaped by Arab traders, Portuguese settlers, Dutch influence, and British colonial history.

Later in the afternoon, begin a guided heritage walk through Fort Kochi where colonial buildings, art cafés, spice warehouses, boutique stores, and old churches create a highly artistic atmosphere. Visit the famous Chinese Fishing Nets along the waterfront while your guide explains Kochi’s long-standing role in the global spice trade. Evening remains free for fine dining and overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 10 Kochi Cultural and Kathakali Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by a deeper exploration of Kochi’s artistic and multicultural identity. Visit Mattancherry Palace, Jewish Synagogue, and spice market districts where centuries of trade and cultural exchange shaped the city’s unique character.

Guests may also explore contemporary art galleries and heritage cafés spread across Fort Kochi’s colonial lanes. Kochi today remains one of India’s most important cultural centers where modern creativity blends naturally with historical architecture and traditional artistic expression.

Later in the evening, guests attend a curated Kathakali dance performance, one of Kerala’s most iconic classical art forms. Elaborate costumes, painted facial expressions, traditional percussion, and symbolic storytelling create a deeply immersive cultural experience. The dramatic performance style differs significantly from Bharatanatyam and introduces another dimension of South India’s artistic heritage. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 11 Departure from Kochi

After breakfast, private transfer arrangements are provided to Kochi International Airport for onward departure. Assistance is offered throughout the checkout and transfer process to ensure a smooth conclusion to the luxury cultural journey.

During the past eleven days, travelers have explored multiple dimensions of South India’s artistic and cultural heritage including Bharatanatyam dance traditions, Kathakali performances, UNESCO temple architecture, colonial heritage towns, artisan workshops, classical music culture, and spiritual temple rituals.

With unforgettable memories of temple artistry, heritage landscapes, cultural performances, luxury stays, and authentic South Indian traditions, the tour concludes in Kochi.   because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

Our trip with Top Indian Holidays was fantastic. Our family of five, including 3 small kids, visited the Golden Triangle of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience. I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.   We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
