South India Beaches and Backwaters Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Chennai

Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, guests are warmly welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Chennai serves as the cultural gateway to South India where colonial architecture, temple traditions, coastal life, and modern luxury coexist naturally. After check-in, guests can relax comfortably after their international journey while enjoying the premium atmosphere of the hotel.

Later in the afternoon, begin a gentle orientation drive across selected parts of the city including Marina Beach and heritage districts associated with Chennai’s colonial-era development. The Bay of Bengal coastline introduces guests to the tropical atmosphere that continues throughout the journey.

The evening remains relaxed with a curated dinner experience featuring refined South Indian coastal cuisine and elegant hospitality. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 2 Chennai to Mahabalipuram

After breakfast, proceed toward the UNESCO heritage destination of Mahabalipuram located along the scenic Coromandel Coast. The coastal highway offers beautiful sea views and a peaceful atmosphere while gradually moving away from Chennai’s urban environment.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury beachside resort before beginning an exploration of Mahabalipuram’s famous stone monuments. Visit the Shore Temple standing beside the sea along with the Five Rathas and Arjuna’s Penance, all showcasing the extraordinary architectural skill of the Pallava dynasty.

The combination of ancient stone carvings, sea breeze, and tropical coastline creates a unique atmosphere rarely found elsewhere in India. Evening remains free for beachside relaxation and sunset dining experiences overlooking the Bay of Bengal. Overnight stay in Mahabalipuram.

Day 3 Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry

Morning departure takes guests toward Pondicherry, one of South India’s most charming coastal towns known for its French colonial heritage and relaxed seaside atmosphere. The drive along the coastline remains scenic with fishing villages and palm-lined roads accompanying the route.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel located within the French Quarter. White colonial villas, quiet boulevards, colorful cafés, and seaside promenades create a distinctly European atmosphere blended naturally with Tamil culture.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking exploration through the French Quarter while learning about Pondicherry’s colonial history, architecture, and artistic identity. Evening remains free for relaxed dining beside the promenade or quiet café experiences overlooking the sea. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 4 Pondicherry Leisure and Coastal Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by a slower day designed for complete relaxation and cultural exploration. Guests may visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, boutique art galleries, handcrafted stores, or simply spend time enjoying the peaceful rhythm of Pondicherry’s coastal streets.

For travelers interested in wellness, luxury spa and yoga experiences can also be arranged within the heritage property or selected wellness centers. Pondicherry’s atmosphere naturally supports slower travel through its artistic culture, seaside calmness, and elegant architecture.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a curated French-Indian fusion dining experience featuring coastal cuisine and refined presentation. The blend of Tamil and French influences creates one of the most unique culinary experiences in South India. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 5 Pondicherry to Kovalam

After breakfast, guests proceed toward Kerala’s famous beach destination of Kovalam by flight or luxury transfer arrangements depending on the selected route. As the journey enters Kerala, the landscapes gradually become greener and more tropical with coconut groves and seaside villages defining the scenery.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury beachfront resort overlooking the Arabian Sea. Kovalam’s crescent-shaped beaches, calm atmosphere, and premium wellness resorts make it one of South India’s finest luxury coastal retreats.

The evening remains free for beach walks, sunset relaxation, or Ayurvedic wellness therapies overlooking the sea. Soft ocean breeze, tropical surroundings, and elegant hospitality create a deeply relaxing atmosphere. Overnight stay in Kovalam.

Day 6 Kovalam Leisure Day

Morning begins with breakfast beside the Arabian Sea followed by a slower leisure day. Unlike sightseeing-heavy itineraries, this journey intentionally includes time for complete relaxation and immersive coastal experiences.

Guests may spend the day enjoying spa therapies, infinity pool relaxation, yoga sessions, or private beachside experiences. Kerala’s wellness traditions are deeply connected with its tropical environment, making Kovalam highly popular among luxury leisure travelers and honeymoon couples.

Later in the evening, private seafood dining experiences can be arranged overlooking the sea. Fresh coastal cuisine, candle-lit ambiance, and peaceful ocean views create a memorable luxury experience. Overnight stay in Kovalam.

Day 7 Kovalam to Varkala

After breakfast, continue northward along Kerala’s coastline toward Varkala, one of South India’s most scenic cliffside beach destinations. The drive remains peaceful with tropical villages, palm-lined roads, and Arabian Sea views accompanying the route.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury cliffside resort offering panoramic ocean views. Unlike conventional beach towns, Varkala combines dramatic cliffs, wellness culture, artistic cafés, and peaceful beaches within one destination.

Later in the afternoon, guests may enjoy relaxed walks along the cliff promenade where cafés, boutique stores, and viewing points overlook the sea below. Sunset from the cliffs creates one of the most breathtaking coastal scenes in Kerala. Overnight stay in Varkala.

Day 8 Varkala Wellness and Relaxation

The day remains intentionally flexible for relaxation and wellness experiences. Morning yoga sessions overlooking the Arabian Sea can be arranged followed by Ayurvedic spa therapies and herbal wellness treatments inspired by Kerala’s traditional healing systems.

Guests may also enjoy quiet beach time, café exploration, or photography experiences around the cliffside landscapes. Varkala’s calm atmosphere and slower pace create an ideal environment for relaxation and mental rejuvenation away from crowded tourist destinations.

Evening remains free for leisure dining experiences and sunset relaxation beside the sea. Overnight stay in Varkala.

Day 9 Varkala to Alleppey

After breakfast, depart from the dramatic cliffside coast of Varkala and continue toward the famous backwater destination of Alleppey. The scenic drive moves through Kerala’s tropical countryside where coconut groves, canals, paddy fields, and fishing villages gradually replace the Arabian Sea coastline. The transition from beach landscapes to peaceful inland waterways creates a refreshing new atmosphere within the journey.

Upon arrival, guests board a luxury private houseboat designed for comfort, privacy, and elegant cruising across Kerala’s backwaters. Spacious bedrooms, open viewing decks, curated dining areas, and attentive hospitality create a refined experience while moving slowly through narrow canals and lagoons.

As the houseboat glides across the backwaters, guests observe local village life unfolding beside the waterways. Coconut farmers, fishermen, churches, wooden homes, and small boats create a highly authentic Kerala landscape. Freshly prepared Kerala cuisine is served onboard while sunset reflections across the water create one of the most memorable moments of the tour. Overnight stay onboard the luxury houseboat in Alleppey.

Day 10 Alleppey to Mararikulam

Morning breakfast onboard the houseboat is followed by disembarkation and a short drive toward the peaceful beach destination of Mararikulam. Unlike busier coastal towns, Mararikulam remains quiet, exclusive, and highly suited for luxury travelers seeking privacy and relaxation beside the Arabian Sea.

Upon arrival, check into a premium beachfront resort surrounded by coconut groves and tropical gardens. Mararikulam’s charm lies in its untouched atmosphere where long sandy beaches, gentle waves, and slower village life create a deeply calming environment. The destination is particularly popular among honeymoon couples and wellness-focused travelers.

The remainder of the day remains free for complete relaxation. Guests may enjoy private beach walks, Ayurvedic therapies, seafood dining, or simply unwind within the luxury property while listening to the sound of the sea. Overnight stay in Mararikulam.

Day 11 Mararikulam Leisure and Wellness Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast overlooking the Arabian Sea followed by a slower leisure day designed entirely around relaxation and wellness. Luxury resorts in Mararikulam focus strongly on privacy, natural surroundings, and personalized hospitality, making it one of Kerala’s most refined coastal retreats.

Guests may spend the day enjoying Ayurvedic spa therapies, yoga sessions, meditation classes, or private cabana experiences beside the beach. Compared to more commercial seaside destinations, Mararikulam maintains a peaceful atmosphere where travelers can fully disconnect from routine life and immerse themselves in Kerala’s tropical coastal rhythm.

Later in the evening, private dining experiences can be arranged beside the beach featuring freshly prepared seafood and traditional Kerala coastal cuisine. Soft lighting, ocean breeze, and calm surroundings create an elegant and memorable atmosphere. Overnight stay in Mararikulam.

Day 12 Mararikulam to Kochi

After breakfast, continue toward the historic harbor city of Kochi, one of South India’s most culturally layered destinations. The drive passes through Kerala’s coastal villages and urban neighborhoods before gradually entering the old colonial district of Fort Kochi.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before beginning a guided exploration of the historic quarter. Walk through narrow colonial lanes lined with art cafés, spice warehouses, boutique stores, and beautifully preserved Portuguese and Dutch-era buildings. Visit the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets along the waterfront followed by St. Francis Church and Santa Cruz Basilica.

The evening atmosphere in Fort Kochi feels artistic and sophisticated with sea-facing restaurants and cultural spaces spread across the heritage district. Guests may enjoy sunset dining overlooking the Arabian Sea while reflecting on the beach and backwater experiences covered throughout the journey. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 13 Kochi Cultural and Leisure Day

The day remains intentionally flexible to allow guests to enjoy Kochi at a slower pace before departure. After breakfast, travelers may choose optional activities including spice market visits, heritage walks, boutique shopping, or private wellness experiences within the hotel.

Kochi has long served as one of India’s most important trading ports and still preserves traces of Arab, Portuguese, Dutch, and British influence through its architecture and cultural identity. Guests interested in art and culture may also visit local galleries and performance spaces spread across Fort Kochi.

Later in the evening, a farewell seafood dinner can be arranged in an elegant waterfront setting featuring curated Kerala cuisine and refined hospitality. The relaxed atmosphere of Kochi creates a perfect conclusion to the luxury coastal journey. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 14 Departure from Kochi

After breakfast, private transfer arrangements are provided to Kochi International Airport for onward departure. Assistance is offered throughout the checkout and transfer process to ensure a smooth conclusion to the luxury holiday.

During the past fourteen days, travelers have explored multiple dimensions of South India’s coastline including colonial seaside towns, tropical beaches, Kerala backwaters, luxury wellness retreats, cliffside landscapes, and peaceful fishing villages while enjoying premium hospitality throughout the itinerary.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

Our trip with Top Indian Holidays was fantastic. Our family of five, including 3 small kids, visited the Golden Triangle of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience. I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.   We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
