Luxury South India Culinary Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Hyderabad

Upon arrival at Hyderabad International Airport, guests are warmly welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Hyderabad immediately introduces travelers to one of India’s most celebrated culinary traditions shaped by centuries of Nizam royal influence and Mughal-Deccan fusion cuisine.

After check-in, guests may relax after their international journey before beginning the culinary exploration with an elegant welcome dining experience. Aromatic biryanis, kebabs, saffron-infused dishes, rich gravies, and traditional desserts reflect the royal sophistication of Hyderabadi cuisine.

The evening also introduces guests to the broader cultural atmosphere of Hyderabad through old city views, illuminated monuments, and traditional hospitality. Overnight stay in Hyderabad.

Day 2 Hyderabad Culinary and Heritage Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by guided exploration of Hyderabad’s old city food culture and heritage landmarks. Visit the famous Charminar district where traditional bakeries, spice vendors, sweet shops, and street food stalls create one of India’s most vibrant culinary environments.

Guests may sample authentic Hyderabadi specialties including haleem, kebabs, Irani chai, and regional sweets while learning about the Persian, Turkish, Mughal, and Deccan influences that shaped the city’s cuisine over centuries.

Later in the afternoon, continue toward Chowmahalla Palace and heritage districts before enjoying another curated royal dining experience inspired by Nizam culinary traditions. Overnight stay in Hyderabad.

Day 3 Hyderabad to Chennai

After breakfast, proceed toward Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s cultural capital and one of South India’s most important culinary centers. Upon arrival, check into a luxury hotel before beginning an introduction to traditional Tamil cuisine.

Compared to Hyderabad’s rich royal flavors, Chennai introduces lighter coastal dishes, dosa varieties, filter coffee traditions, vegetarian temple cuisine, and seafood specialties deeply connected with Tamil culture and the Bay of Bengal coastline.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a curated South Indian tasting menu featuring regional Tamil flavors prepared with traditional methods and seasonal ingredients. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 4 Chennai Food Markets and Culinary Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by guided visits to Chennai’s local food markets and traditional eateries. Guests may explore spice stalls, flower markets, seafood sections, and street food districts where Tamil culinary culture remains highly active and authentic.

Continue with curated tastings of dosa, idli, Chettinad-inspired dishes, banana leaf meals, and traditional sweets while learning about regional ingredients such as curry leaves, tamarind, coconut, black pepper, and lentils used throughout South Indian cuisine.

Later in the afternoon, guests may attend a private cooking demonstration introducing classic Tamil dishes and home-style preparation techniques. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 5 Chennai to Chettinad

After breakfast, continue toward the heritage culinary region of Chettinad, internationally famous for one of India’s boldest and most aromatic cuisines. The scenic drive passes through Tamil Nadu’s countryside and temple landscapes before entering the historic merchant region.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage mansion featuring traditional Chettiar architecture and aristocratic interiors. The atmosphere immediately reflects the cultural richness and trading history that influenced Chettinad cuisine through spices and international connections.

Later in the evening, guests enjoy an authentic Chettinad dining experience featuring pepper-rich curries, aromatic rice dishes, handmade spices, and traditional recipes prepared using generations-old cooking methods. Overnight stay in Chettinad.

Day 6 Chettinad Culinary Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by deeper exploration of Chettinad’s culinary traditions. Guests may visit local spice markets, traditional kitchens, and artisan food preparation areas where age-old cooking techniques continue to remain active.

Private cooking demonstrations introduce signature Chettinad recipes while explaining the importance of freshly ground spices, sun-dried ingredients, and regional cooking styles unique to this part of Tamil Nadu. Compared to Chennai’s coastal cuisine, Chettinad food feels richer, spicier, and more intensely aromatic.

Later in the afternoon, guests may explore heritage mansions and village streets before another curated heritage dinner within the luxury mansion setting. Overnight stay in Chettinad.

Day 7 Chettinad to Madurai

After breakfast, continue toward the ancient temple city of Madurai, another important culinary center of Tamil Nadu known for temple food traditions, street snacks, and vibrant local markets.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before beginning exploration of Madurai’s evening food culture. Guests may sample traditional Tamil snacks, sweets, parottas, local curries, and regional specialties sold throughout the city’s lively market districts.

Later in the evening, visit the illuminated Meenakshi Amman Temple area where devotional culture and food traditions remain deeply connected with everyday life. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 8 Madurai to Kochi

After breakfast, continue toward the coastal heritage city of Kochi in Kerala. The journey gradually transitions from Tamil Nadu’s temple landscapes into Kerala’s tropical spice-rich environment filled with coconut groves, rivers, and plantation scenery.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel located within Fort Kochi before beginning an introduction to Kerala cuisine and spice culture. Kochi’s history as a global spice trading port shaped its food traditions through Arab, Portuguese, Dutch, and local Kerala influences.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy seafood specialties and traditional Kerala dishes flavored with coconut, curry leaves, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 9 Kochi Spice Markets and Coastal Culinary Experiences

Morning begins with breakfast followed by guided exploration of Kochi’s historic spice markets and coastal culinary districts. Fort Kochi and Mattancherry remain deeply connected with Kerala’s centuries-old spice trade where black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger were once exported to global markets.

Guests may walk through old spice warehouses, fish markets, and heritage trading streets while learning how Arab traders, Portuguese merchants, Dutch settlers, and local communities shaped Kerala’s food traditions. The aromas, colors, and textures of the spice markets create one of South India’s most immersive culinary experiences.

Later in the afternoon, guests may attend a curated Kerala cooking session where traditional seafood curries, appams, stews, and coconut-based dishes are prepared using authentic local techniques. Evening remains relaxed with waterfront dining and overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 10 Kochi to Calicut

After breakfast, continue northward toward Calicut (Kozhikode), one of Kerala’s most historically important coastal trading cities and a legendary center of Malabar cuisine. The scenic drive passes tropical villages, rivers, coconut groves, and Arabian Sea landscapes throughout the route.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury hotel before beginning exploration of Calicut’s culinary identity. Historically connected with Arab spice traders and maritime commerce, Malabar cuisine combines rich spices, coconut, seafood, rice dishes, and Middle Eastern influences into one of India’s most refined regional food cultures.

Later in the evening, guests may enjoy a curated Malabar dining experience featuring dishes such as Malabar biryani, pathiri, seafood curries, and traditional desserts prepared with regional techniques and ingredients. Overnight stay in Calicut.

Day 11 Calicut Culinary and Cultural Exploration

Morning begins with breakfast followed by guided visits to Calicut’s traditional markets, seafood areas, and local food streets where Kerala’s coastal culinary culture remains highly active and authentic.

Guests may sample regional snacks, banana chips, halwa varieties, seafood dishes, and local breakfast specialties while learning about the Arab and coastal influences that shaped Malabar cuisine over centuries. Compared to Tamil Nadu’s spice-heavy flavors and Hyderabad’s royal cuisine, Calicut introduces a more coastal and trade-oriented culinary identity.

Later in the afternoon, guests may enjoy leisure time within the luxury hotel or optional cultural experiences before a farewell gourmet dining experience inspired by the culinary journey across South India. Overnight stay in Calicut.

Day 12 Departure from Calicut

After breakfast, private transfer arrangements are provided to Calicut International Airport for onward departure. Assistance is offered throughout the checkout and transfer process to ensure a smooth conclusion to the luxury culinary journey.

During the past twelve days, travelers have explored some of South India’s most celebrated culinary regions including Hyderabad, Chennai, Chettinad, Madurai, Kochi, and Calicut while experiencing royal cuisine, temple food traditions, spice markets, seafood specialties, plantation flavors, and authentic regional cooking techniques.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

My wife had a wonderful 28 day trip around the main sights in Rajasthan, The Golden Triangle and onwards to Varanasi. Nand organised the hotels to our budget, the driver and guides all of which were very good. Without his expertise this trip would not have been possible so a big "thank you"!  ...Read More

Our trip with Top Indian Holidays was fantastic. Our family of five, including 3 small kids, visited the Golden Triangle of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience. I cannot recommend them enough. The hotel accommodations were great (we stayed at the trident hotels). The food was delicious. Everyone we met in India was so friendly and kind. We always felt safe. Our tour guide Nand was super nice and informative. Our kids’ favorite stop was the Monkey Temple :) The rickshaw ride through Delhi was exciting and fun.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service. Despite traveling alone with my sister, we felt so safe and at home. I truly have fallen in love with I did!  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

Top Indian Holidays is THE BEST! We came to India for the Jain Festival in south India at Shravanabelagola (which happens only once every 12 years) and continued on to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and to sit for teachings with His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. Top Indian Holidays handled all of the arrangements expertly, providing first rate service, excellent accommodations, transport, and first rate local guides! We've travelled through many, many countries with numerous very good travel agencies but none have provided the excellent service that Top Indian Holidays provided. They are committed to excellence.   We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
