Trip Overview

Southern India carries a completely different rhythm compared to the northern circuit of the country. Temple towns wake up with chanting and incense, mist-covered hills open slowly with tea gardens, and quiet backwaters replace the noise of crowded cities. This luxury South India tour has been designed for travelers who want comfort, culture, landscapes, heritage, and premium hospitality within one seamless journey across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The route combines some of the finest destinations in South India including Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, Kumarakom, Madurai, Chettinad, Mysore, Coorg, and Bangalore. Instead of rushing through attractions, the itinerary focuses on meaningful stays, carefully selected luxury hotels, scenic drives, authentic regional cuisine, private guided sightseeing, and relaxed travel days. Guests enjoy the changing character of South India from colonial coastal towns and spice plantations to royal palaces and elegant countryside estates.

Every destination adds a distinct layer to the journey while maintaining the premium standard expected from a luxury South India holiday.

Luxury Kerala Tamil Nadu Karnataka Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Kochi

Upon arrival at Kochi International Airport, guests are welcomed by the representative of Top Indian Holidays and transferred privately to their luxury hotel. Kochi, historically known as Cochin, has long been one of the most important trading ports in South India. Arab traders, Portuguese settlers, Dutch merchants, and the British all left their influence on this coastal city, giving it a distinct architectural and cultural identity. After the transfer, guests can relax and recover from their international journey while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the hotel.

Later in the afternoon, begin a leisurely exploration of Fort Kochi, one of the most charming heritage quarters in Kerala. Walk through narrow colonial lanes lined with art cafés, spice warehouses, boutique stores, and beautifully preserved European-style buildings. Visit the famous Chinese Fishing Nets standing along the shoreline, a landmark strongly associated with Kochi’s maritime past. Continue toward St. Francis Church and the Santa Cruz Basilica while your private guide explains the multicultural history of the region.

The evening remains relaxed to help guests settle into the slower rhythm of South India. A traditional Kathakali dance performance can be arranged where artists present classical storytelling through elaborate costumes and expressive movements. Dinner is served at a premium restaurant featuring authentic Kerala cuisine along with continental selections. Overnight stay in Kochi.

Day 2 Kochi to Munnar

After breakfast, depart for Munnar, one of the most celebrated hill stations in South India. The drive itself becomes a major highlight as the landscape gradually changes from coastal plains into rolling green mountains. Waterfalls, cardamom plantations, spice gardens, and misty valleys appear along the route. The fresh mountain air and winding roads offer a completely different atmosphere compared to Kochi’s coastal charm.

During the journey, stop at scenic viewpoints and spice plantations where guests can understand Kerala’s long-standing spice trade heritage. Pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg are cultivated extensively in this region. Small local markets along the route also provide opportunities to taste fresh spices and regional snacks. The route toward Munnar is ideal for photography because every section of the drive presents dramatic mountain scenery and tea-covered slopes.

Upon arrival in Munnar, check into a luxury hill resort surrounded by tea gardens. The rest of the evening remains free for relaxation amidst cool weather and peaceful natural surroundings. Guests may enjoy a spa session, plantation walk, or sunset views from the resort. Dinner and overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 3 Munnar Sightseeing

Morning begins with breakfast overlooking the tea-covered hills of Munnar. Once the summer retreat of the British administration in South India, Munnar still preserves its colonial-era charm along with endless tea plantations spread across the mountains. The day’s sightseeing starts with a visit to the Tea Museum where guests learn about the history of tea cultivation and processing in Kerala.

Continue toward scenic attractions including Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, and Kundala Lake. The roads passing through these regions are lined with tea estates that create one of the most iconic landscapes in South India. Private stops are arranged at selected viewpoints for photography and short walks. Guests often enjoy observing local tea workers carefully plucking fresh tea leaves from steep plantation slopes.

Later in the day, return toward the resort while enjoying a quieter side of Munnar away from crowded tourist sections. Optional activities such as nature walks, Ayurvedic therapies, or private dining experiences can be arranged. The cool climate, luxury hospitality, and calm mountain atmosphere make Munnar one of the most relaxing sections of the journey. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 4 Munnar to Thekkady

After breakfast, proceed toward Thekkady, a region famous for spice plantations, forests, and wildlife reserves. The drive passes through dramatic mountain roads and dense greenery before entering the Periyar region. Compared to Munnar’s tea landscapes, Thekkady introduces travelers to tropical forests and rich biodiversity. The atmosphere becomes quieter and more connected with nature.

On arrival, check into a luxury jungle resort located close to the Periyar Wildlife region. Later, visit a spice plantation where experts explain the cultivation of cardamom, black pepper, cloves, vanilla, and nutmeg. South India’s global spice trade historically attracted merchants from Europe and the Middle East, making this region economically significant for centuries. Guests also get opportunities to purchase fresh spices directly from plantation estates.

In the evening, guests may enjoy optional activities including a martial arts performance, guided nature walk, or Ayurvedic wellness therapy. Thekkady is particularly attractive for travelers seeking a slower and more immersive South India luxury holiday. Surrounded by forest landscapes and cool mountain weather, the destination provides a peaceful retreat away from urban environments. Overnight stay in Thekkady.

Day 5 Thekkady to Kumarakom

Breakfast is followed by departure toward Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most luxurious backwater destinations. The journey slowly descends from the hills toward the lake region where coconut groves, canals, and paddy fields dominate the landscape. As guests approach Kumarakom, the atmosphere becomes more relaxed and tropical.

Upon arrival, check into a premium backwater resort located along the peaceful banks of Vembanad Lake. Luxury resorts in Kumarakom are known for private villas, lake-facing suites, Ayurvedic wellness treatments, and exceptional hospitality. The afternoon remains free to enjoy the property’s surroundings. Guests can relax beside the lake, take a sunset cruise, or simply enjoy the slower pace of Kerala village life.

During the evening, traditional Kerala cuisine is served with freshly prepared seafood and regional specialties. Kumarakom is ideal for travelers seeking privacy and luxury amidst natural beauty. The still waters, traditional boats, birdlife, and sunset views create one of the most refined and peaceful experiences of the tour. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 6 Kumarakom Backwaters Experience

The morning in Kumarakom begins with calm lake views and the sounds of local fishing boats crossing the backwaters. Unlike crowded tourist regions, Kumarakom offers a more elegant and peaceful backwater experience suited for luxury travelers. After breakfast, guests board a private traditional boat for a curated exploration of Kerala’s backwater villages and canals.

As the cruise moves through narrow waterways, guests observe daily life unfolding along the shores. Coconut farmers, fishermen, school boats, village churches, and traditional wooden homes create a fascinating cultural landscape. The backwaters are not merely a tourist attraction but an important transportation and lifestyle network for Kerala’s rural communities. Lunch can be arranged onboard with freshly prepared Kerala dishes.

The evening remains free for relaxation at the resort. Guests may choose a private spa treatment, lakeside dining, or a quiet walk through the coconut groves surrounding the property. Kumarakom’s luxury hospitality and natural setting create a memorable contrast before the journey continues toward Tamil Nadu. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 7 Kumarakom to Madurai

After breakfast, leave Kerala behind and drive toward Madurai, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in India. The transition from Kerala’s tropical backwaters to Tamil Nadu’s temple landscapes introduces a completely different cultural atmosphere. Madurai has been a major center of Tamil civilization, literature, trade, and temple architecture for centuries.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury heritage hotel before beginning an evening visit to the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple. The temple is among the greatest architectural landmarks of South India and remains deeply active as a spiritual center. Massive gateway towers covered with thousands of colorful sculptures dominate the skyline. Inside the temple complex, your guide explains the religious significance, mythology, and Dravidian architectural style associated with Tamil temple traditions.

Later, witness the evening temple ceremony where priests, musicians, and devotees participate in ancient rituals that continue even today. The atmosphere becomes highly spiritual with chanting, lamps, and temple music echoing through the corridors. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 8 Madurai to Chettinad

Morning begins with a relaxed breakfast before departing for the culturally rich region of Chettinad. Unlike conventional tourist circuits, Chettinad offers a deeper look into South India’s merchant history, architecture, cuisine, and aristocratic lifestyle. The region became prosperous through trading communities that built magnificent mansions combining Indian and European influences.

Upon arrival, check into a restored luxury heritage mansion converted into a boutique hotel. These grand properties feature handcrafted wooden interiors, marble courtyards, antique furnishings, and traditional Tamil design elements. After some rest, begin exploring nearby villages known for palatial homes, handcrafted tiles, woodwork, and local weaving traditions. Walking through these quiet streets feels like entering a preserved chapter of South India’s trading history.

The culinary traditions of Chettinad are equally famous and considered among the finest regional cuisines in India. Guests can participate in a curated dining experience showcasing authentic Chettinad flavors prepared with aromatic spices and traditional cooking techniques. The slow pace, architectural beauty, and cultural depth make Chettinad one of the most distinctive luxury experiences of the tour. Overnight stay in Chettinad.

Day 9 Chettinad to Mysore

After breakfast, begin the journey toward the royal city of Mysore in Karnataka. The drive introduces another cultural transition as Tamil Nadu’s temple towns and heritage mansions slowly give way to Karnataka’s greener countryside and royal legacy. Long scenic stretches, small farming settlements, coconut plantations, and peaceful rural landscapes make the route visually rewarding for travelers who enjoy overland luxury journeys across South India.

Upon arrival in Mysore, check into a luxury palace-style hotel known for its regal architecture and refined hospitality. Mysore was once the capital of the powerful Wodeyar dynasty and remains one of India’s most elegant heritage cities. The atmosphere here feels grand yet relaxed, with wide boulevards, royal buildings, historic markets, and beautifully maintained gardens adding to its timeless character.

In the evening, visit the illuminated Mysore Palace, one of the most spectacular royal residences in India. The palace interiors display intricate ceilings, stained glass, carved doors, chandeliers, and royal artifacts reflecting the grandeur of the former kingdom. Guests can enjoy a quiet evening walk around the palace complex before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 10 Mysore Sightseeing

The morning starts with a leisurely breakfast followed by a deeper exploration of Mysore’s royal and cultural attractions. Begin with Chamundi Hills, one of the most sacred landmarks in the region. The hilltop temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari offers panoramic views across the city while also providing insight into the spiritual traditions connected with the Mysore royal family.

Continue toward the famous Devaraja Market, a lively local market filled with flowers, sandalwood products, spices, incense, and colorful fruits. Unlike modern shopping districts, this market preserves the traditional trading culture of Karnataka. Guests often enjoy interacting with local vendors and observing the vibrant atmosphere that has remained largely unchanged for generations.

Later in the afternoon, visit the beautiful Brindavan Gardens located near the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam. The landscaped gardens, fountains, and peaceful setting provide a refreshing contrast to the historical attractions visited earlier in the day. Return to the hotel in the evening where guests can relax with a spa treatment or fine dining experience. Overnight stay in Mysore.

Day 11 Mysore to Coorg

Following breakfast, proceed toward the lush hill region of Coorg, also known as Kodagu. Often referred to as the “Scotland of India,” Coorg is famous for coffee plantations, mist-covered valleys, forest landscapes, and luxury nature retreats. The drive itself becomes highly scenic as winding roads pass through dense greenery and plantation estates.

After arriving in Coorg, check into a premium plantation resort surrounded by coffee estates and tropical forests. Luxury stays in Coorg are designed to blend naturally with the surrounding environment while still offering world-class comfort and privacy. Guests can spend the afternoon relaxing within the property while enjoying fresh mountain air and panoramic views of the countryside.

Later, enjoy a guided plantation walk where estate experts explain the process of coffee cultivation, harvesting, roasting, and blending. Coorg produces some of India’s finest coffee and has developed a strong plantation culture over generations. Evening tea served amidst the plantation landscape creates a memorable and peaceful luxury experience. Dinner and overnight stay in Coorg.

Day 12 Coorg Exploration

Morning begins with fresh coffee aromas and cool mountain weather unique to Coorg’s plantation region. After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing across some of the area’s natural and cultural attractions. Begin with Abbey Falls where water flows dramatically through dense coffee and spice plantations, creating one of the region’s most photographed landscapes.

Continue toward Raja’s Seat, a historic viewpoint once used by the Coorg royal family for relaxation and sunset views. The rolling hills, layered valleys, and cool breeze make this location ideal for quiet leisure moments. Along the way, your guide explains the unique Kodava culture, local traditions, martial heritage, and distinct identity of the people of Coorg.

The afternoon remains intentionally relaxed to preserve the slower luxury pace of the tour. Guests may choose optional activities such as birdwatching, nature trails, private bonfire dinners, or Ayurvedic wellness sessions. Coorg’s peaceful environment offers a perfect escape from urban life while maintaining premium hospitality standards. Overnight stay in Coorg.

Day 13 Coorg to Bangalore

After breakfast, depart for Bangalore, Karnataka’s cosmopolitan capital known for its pleasant climate, luxury hotels, gardens, and modern urban atmosphere. The journey gradually transitions from forested plantation landscapes into a vibrant metropolitan environment. Despite being India’s technology hub, Bangalore still retains many heritage neighborhoods, colonial-era buildings, and green spaces.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury city hotel before beginning a relaxed orientation tour. Visit landmarks such as Cubbon Park, Vidhan Soudha, and the historic Bangalore Palace. Compared to the historical destinations visited earlier in the itinerary, Bangalore presents a modern face of South India while still preserving traces of its royal and colonial history.

In the evening, guests may enjoy fine dining at one of Bangalore’s premium restaurants offering gourmet South Indian cuisine, global culinary selections, and elegant ambiance. Luxury shopping, cocktail lounges, and art cafés can also be arranged depending on guest preference. Overnight stay in Bangalore.

Day 14 Bangalore Leisure Day

This day has been intentionally designed with flexibility to allow guests to enjoy Bangalore at a relaxed pace before the journey concludes. After several days of heritage exploration and scenic travel, a slower luxury day provides balance within the itinerary. Guests can begin the morning with a leisurely breakfast followed by optional spa and wellness treatments at the hotel.

For travelers interested in shopping and design, private visits can be arranged to luxury boutiques, handicraft galleries, silk stores, jewelry houses, and premium lifestyle districts. Bangalore is also known for handcrafted sandalwood products, fine textiles, and contemporary Indian fashion labels. Guests seeking cultural experiences may alternatively visit art galleries or heritage cafés located across the city.

The evening can be reserved for a farewell dinner celebrating the completion of the South India luxury journey. Carefully selected restaurants offering elegant ambiance and curated regional menus provide the perfect setting for the final night of the tour. Overnight stay in Bangalore.

Day 15 Departure from Bangalore

The final morning of the tour begins with breakfast at the hotel followed by private transfer arrangements to Bangalore International Airport. Depending on flight schedules, guests may enjoy some additional leisure time before departure. Assistance is provided throughout the checkout and transfer process to ensure a smooth conclusion to the journey.

Over the past two weeks, travelers have experienced multiple dimensions of South India including Kerala’s backwaters, Tamil Nadu’s temple heritage, Karnataka’s royal cities, tea gardens, coffee plantations, spice regions, cultural traditions, and luxury hospitality. The carefully balanced route allows guests to witness dramatic regional diversity while maintaining comfort and exclusivity throughout the journey.

With unforgettable memories of palace stays, mountain landscapes, traditional cuisine, cultural performances, and scenic countryside drives, the tour concludes in Bangalore.   because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
