Five Star South India Tour :- Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Chennai

Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Top Indian Holidays and transferred to your luxury hotel. Chennai, formerly known as Madras, remains one of the oldest cultural gateways to South India and still preserves its strong connection to Carnatic music, temple traditions and colonial history. After check-in, the remainder of the afternoon is kept relaxed so guests can recover comfortably from their international flight.

Later in the day, begin a gentle introduction to the city with a private guided drive through some of Chennai’s important landmarks. Visit Marina Beach, one of the longest urban beaches in the world, where local life unfolds during the evening hours. Continue toward San Thome Basilica, built over the tomb of Saint Thomas, followed by a panoramic drive past colonial-era government buildings and traditional neighborhoods that still reflect the city’s old-world identity.

The evening can be spent enjoying fine South Indian cuisine at one of Chennai’s premium restaurants known for refined regional dishes served in an elegant setting. Guests interested in culture may also attend a live classical music or Bharatanatyam dance performance depending on the local calendar. Overnight stay in Chennai.

Day 2 Chennai to Pondicherry

After breakfast, depart by private vehicle for Pondicherry along the scenic East Coast Road. The journey itself is one of the highlights of South India, passing fishing villages, coastal landscapes and stretches of the Bay of Bengal. En route, stop at Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its rock-cut temples and ancient Pallava architecture dating back to the 7th century.

Your guide will introduce the remarkable Shore Temple, Arjuna’s Penance and the famous Five Rathas complex. Unlike northern Indian forts and palaces, the monuments here display intricate stone carvings inspired by mythology and maritime trade culture. Guests can also enjoy lunch at a luxury seaside resort before continuing further south toward Pondicherry.

Arrive in Pondicherry by evening and check into a boutique luxury hotel located near the French Quarter. The atmosphere here feels completely different from the rest of India, with mustard-colored colonial villas, tree-lined boulevards and quiet cafés creating a charming European influence. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 3 Pondicherry Sightseeing

The morning begins with a guided exploration of the French Quarter, one of the most photogenic areas in South India. Elegant colonial mansions, pastel-colored streets and peaceful promenades make Pondicherry a favorite among luxury travelers seeking a slower and more artistic atmosphere. Your guide will also explain the city’s French colonial history and spiritual importance connected to Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Later, visit the famous Auroville community located on the outskirts of the city. Designed as an international township focused on peace and sustainable living, Auroville attracts visitors from around the world. Guests may visit the Matrimandir viewing area and learn about the philosophy behind this unique global community. The experience offers a completely different perspective compared to traditional sightseeing routes in India.

Return to Pondicherry for a relaxed evening near the seaside promenade. Boutique cafés, fine dining restaurants and charming art galleries provide an elegant setting for the remainder of the day. Guests may enjoy French-inspired cuisine or freshly prepared seafood overlooking the sea. Overnight stay in Pondicherry.

Day 4 Pondicherry to Tanjore

After breakfast, continue your South India luxury journey toward Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur. The drive passes through fertile countryside, temple villages and agricultural landscapes shaped by the Cauvery River delta. This region has historically been considered one of the wealthiest cultural centers of Tamil Nadu.

Upon arrival in Tanjore, check into your luxury heritage hotel before proceeding for sightseeing. The city is internationally known for the magnificent Brihadeeswarar Temple, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece built by the Chola dynasty over a thousand years ago. The scale of the temple, its giant Shiva lingam and the engineering precision of its towering structure continue to astonish historians and travelers alike.

The evening includes time to explore local art traditions such as Tanjore paintings and classical bronze sculpture workshops. Guests interested in culture and architecture will particularly appreciate the refined artistic legacy preserved in this historic town. Overnight stay in Tanjore.

Day 5 Tanjore to Madurai

This morning, drive toward Madurai, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in India and among the most important spiritual destinations in the south. The route reveals rural Tamil Nadu at its authentic best, with banana plantations, roadside temples and local markets appearing throughout the journey.

Arrive in Madurai and check into your luxury hotel before beginning city exploration. The highlight of the day is the extraordinary Meenakshi Amman Temple, famous for its towering colorful gopurams covered with thousands of sculpted deities and mythological figures. Your guide will explain temple rituals, Dravidian architecture and the significance of the goddess Meenakshi in Tamil culture.

During the evening, witness the traditional temple ceremony where Lord Shiva’s image is ceremonially carried through the temple corridors. The spiritual atmosphere, devotional music and lamp-lit surroundings create one of the most memorable cultural experiences in South India. Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 6 Madurai to Thekkady

Following breakfast, proceed toward Thekkady in Kerala, where the landscape changes dramatically from temple plains to misty hills and spice-covered forests. The drive into Kerala introduces lush greenery, winding mountain roads and cool fresh air that contrasts beautifully with Tamil Nadu’s historic temple cities.

Upon arrival, check into a luxury jungle resort surrounded by spice plantations and tropical vegetation. Thekkady is best known for the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and its long-standing spice trade. Guests can enjoy guided plantation walks where cardamom, pepper, cinnamon and cloves are cultivated. The aroma of fresh spices fills the air throughout the region.

In the evening, guests may choose to attend a traditional Kathakali dance performance or a Kalaripayattu martial arts show. These cultural presentations provide insight into Kerala’s artistic and warrior traditions. Overnight stay in Thekkady.

Day 7 Thekkady to Kumarakom

After breakfast, travel toward Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most luxurious backwater destinations located along the peaceful Vembanad Lake. The journey descends from forested hills into coconut-lined waterways and village landscapes that define Kerala’s iconic scenery.

Upon arrival, check into a premium backwater resort known for its tranquil setting and wellness-focused hospitality. Kumarakom is ideal for travelers seeking privacy, relaxation and scenic beauty. Guests can enjoy Ayurvedic spa therapies, sunset cruises or simply relax beside the lake while observing traditional village life unfolding along the waterways.

The remainder of the day is intentionally slow-paced to allow guests to absorb the atmosphere of Kerala’s backwaters. Luxury hospitality combined with natural surroundings makes Kumarakom one of the most memorable parts of the journey. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 8 Kumarakom Backwaters Experience

The morning begins with a private backwater cruise through Kerala’s intricate canal systems. Traditional villages, fishing boats, paddy fields and narrow waterways create a peaceful setting far removed from crowded city tourism. Guests can observe local life closely while enjoying personalized service onboard.

During the cruise, your guide will explain how the backwater communities depend on fishing, coir making and agriculture for daily life. Stops may include small village markets, churches and traditional homes built along the water channels. The experience offers authentic cultural interaction while maintaining the comfort expected from a luxury Kerala holiday.

Return to the resort for a relaxed evening. Guests may enjoy wellness treatments, lakeside dining or a quiet sunset overlooking the water. Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 9 Kumarakom to Marari Beach

After breakfast, continue toward Marari, a serene coastal destination located along Kerala’s Arabian Sea shoreline. Unlike the busy commercial beaches found elsewhere in India, Marari remains peaceful, refined and deeply connected to local fishing communities. The short drive passes through coconut groves, village roads and quiet coastal scenery before arriving at your luxury beach resort.

Upon check-in, the remainder of the afternoon is dedicated to relaxation beside the sea. Luxury resorts in Marari are designed with privacy and wellness in mind, offering elegant villas, open-air dining spaces and direct beach access. Guests can spend time walking along the untouched shoreline, enjoying Ayurvedic spa therapies or simply relaxing under swaying palm trees while listening to the sound of the ocean.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere becomes particularly beautiful with golden sunset views over the Arabian Sea. Fresh seafood dinners, candlelit beachside settings and the calm coastal environment make Marari an ideal conclusion to the cultural and backwater sections of the tour. Overnight stay in Marari.

Day 10 Marari Beach Leisure Day

Today has been intentionally kept flexible so guests can enjoy Kerala’s coastline at their own pace. Unlike fast-moving sightseeing itineraries, this part of the journey focuses on comfort, wellness and slow luxury. The peaceful surroundings of Marari create the perfect atmosphere for rest after several days of cultural exploration across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Guests may begin the day with yoga sessions, Ayurvedic wellness treatments or a relaxed breakfast overlooking the sea. For travelers interested in local life, guided village walks can also be arranged where traditional coir-making techniques, fishing activities and Kerala’s coastal culture can be observed closely. The authenticity of Marari lies in its simplicity and natural charm rather than commercial tourism.

The afternoon and evening remain free for leisure. Guests may enjoy private dining experiences, sunset cocktails or simply spend uninterrupted time by the beach. Luxury hospitality combined with Kerala’s coastal tranquility creates a memorable and rejuvenating experience. Overnight stay in Marari.

Day 11 Marari to Cochin

After breakfast, drive toward Cochin, historically one of India’s most important trading ports connecting Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The city reflects centuries of Portuguese, Dutch, British and Jewish influence, creating a cultural atmosphere completely different from the temple towns visited earlier in the tour.

Upon arrival, check into your luxury hotel before beginning a guided exploration of Fort Kochi. Walk through colonial streets lined with old European-style buildings, cafés, spice warehouses and art galleries. Visit the famous Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church and the Dutch Palace while your guide explains Cochin’s role in the global spice trade. The city’s layered history makes it one of the most fascinating cultural destinations in South India.

Later in the evening, guests may attend a traditional Kathakali performance where artists prepare with elaborate makeup and costumes before presenting classical dance dramas based on Hindu epics. The artistic precision and storytelling style provide a wonderful cultural finale to the journey. Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 12 Cochin Heritage & Culinary Experiences

The day begins with a deeper exploration of Cochin’s multicultural heritage. Visit the historic Jewish Synagogue in Mattancherry along with the surrounding spice market area where traders once handled pepper, cardamom and cinnamon bound for European markets. The atmosphere of the old spice lanes still preserves traces of Cochin’s international trading legacy.

Guests may also enjoy a curated culinary experience introducing Kerala’s refined cuisine traditions. Seafood preparations, coconut-based curries, appams and Syrian Christian delicacies present a completely different flavor profile compared to northern India. Luxury dining experiences in Cochin often combine heritage architecture with modern presentation, creating memorable evenings for international travelers.

The remainder of the day can be spent shopping for antiques, spices, textiles and handcrafted souvenirs. Cochin’s boutique stores and art cafés attract travelers interested in culture, interiors and regional craftsmanship. Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 13 Cochin Leisure Day

Today is reserved for leisure and personal exploration. Some guests may prefer to relax at the hotel while others may choose optional activities such as harbor cruises, art gallery visits or private cooking experiences with local chefs. Cochin’s calm pace and historic setting make it an excellent city for slow travel.

Guests interested in contemporary culture may visit the growing art districts and heritage warehouses converted into modern galleries and cafés. Depending on the season, Cochin also hosts international art and cultural events that attract visitors from around the world. The city balances history and modern creativity in a very elegant way.

In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Cochin’s premium waterfront restaurants. Fine seafood, candlelit settings and views of the harbor create a sophisticated ending to your luxury South India holiday. Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 14 Cochin at Leisure

After several days of cultural sightseeing and long-distance travel, the final full day of the itinerary is designed for complete relaxation. Guests can spend time enjoying the facilities of their luxury hotel, revisiting favorite areas of Fort Kochi or simply slowing down before international onward travel.

For wellness-focused travelers, Ayurvedic therapies and spa treatments can be arranged privately. Others may choose a photography walk through the colonial quarters or a sunset harbor experience along the waterfront. The flexibility of the day allows each traveler to shape the experience according to personal interests and pace.

The evening remains free to enjoy the atmosphere of Cochin one final time. Luxury travel is not only about destinations but also about creating moments of comfort, ease and memorable cultural connection throughout the journey. Overnight stay in Cochin.

because my time with him in India was the most organized and exciting two weeks of my existence. I spent two weeks touring Southern India with a class of 16 American students and one professor who had never been to India, but thanks to Nand, the trip was seamless. He took us to incredible locations and called upon his personal connections to create opportunities for us and ensure that we were involved and informed. The entire time we were there, Nand made India feel like home. Somehow, he found a way for us to experience a range of incredible, new experiences in a completly unfamiliar place, while always ensuring our safety, comfort, and awareness. There is nothing Nand will not do to make your trip incredible. I cannot reccommend him enough.  ...Read More

I’ve made such wonderful memories here in India. For a week, I had the chance to work on my sister’s women’s healthcare project in the village of Chandelao, and then spent a weekend in Jaipur. The accommodations have been top notch, and both our guides- Kartika and Nand Singh- have become our good friends. Top Indian Holidays is a tour company dedicated to exceptional service.   Last year, I travelled throughout northern India for one month as part of a course at Saint Mary’s College. We had such incredible adventures, thanks to our in country guide and friend Nand Singh Rathore. I was so impressed by his company’s commitment to excellent hospitality that I planned another visit this March. The main purpose of my trip was to work on a women’s healthcare project in Chandelao. Top Indian Holidays was so helpful in organizing transportation and accommodations. Our guide, Kartika, and our driver, Bhim, made sure we were well taken care of. My project would not have gone smoothly if it weren’t for them- and I am so proud to call them my new friends! My sister and I stayed an extra weekend in Jaipur, and Nand Singh was amazing as usual. He is so, so good to us!!! If you visit India through Top Indian Holidays, I assure you that you will have a safe, adventurous, and unforgettable experience!  ...Read More

We had an absolutely incredible experience touring India with Top Indian Holidays, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our journey took us through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, and Jaipur, and every part of the trip was seamlessly organised from start to finish. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra was, of course, a highlight, but the real standout moment was Ranthambore—where we were lucky enough to see tigers in the wild, something we’ll never forget. What really made the trip exceptional, though, was having the same driver with us throughout the entire journey.  ...Read More

On the advice of a friend we contacted Nand Singh Rathore at Top Indian Holidays in Jaipur. Nand worked with us and suggested a suitable tour over 5 days. We flew from Goa to Delhi and were met by our driver Ram Singh, whom stayed with us for the duration of the tour. Day 2 we visited the Taj Mahal with a very well informed local guide and spent 3 hours enjoying this special place. We then headed for Jaipur ( a 6 hour drive from Agra) stopping on the way at Chand Baori ( The Abhaneri Step Well). Day 3 in Jaipur we visited the Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace. We were also due to visit the Jantar Mantar but because of heavy rain and thunderstorms we missed this out. Day 4 we were picked up at our hotel for the 7 hour drive to Udaipur , stopping for lunch and comfort breaks on the way.  ...Read More
