India is fascinating vast country with most vibrant culture, customs and rich heritage, but it is better to have budget time in your trip for resting and recovering. It is wholly different culture and people may ask you intimidating personal questions. You may find it weird at first but you’ll get hold of it.

Adequate clothing as per accepted norms:
Being a country of reserved culture, walking around in a mini skirt or a low cut top is not acceptable here. Covering arms and legs is a norm here and if you dress in a revealing way, you will draw a lot of unwanted attention. While visiting someone’s house, and specially a sacred place, removing your shoes is a step towards respecting their customs. Also when you visit temples, keep your shoulders covered with a shawl and make sure your dress reach your knees.

Auto-rickshaw drivers in India may try to fool you by insisting that your hotel has closed down or even can take you to the wrong location and quote very high prices than fair rates. You can avoid these kinds of scams by simple awareness like knowing the address of the hotel in advance or having a phone number so that you can confirm the location. Prefer government-run shops to avoid scams like fake train tickets that are useless for your journey. Avoid deals that seem too good to be true.

Things to happen on ‘Indian time’:
Indian time is relative; trains usually won’t run as per schedules, traffic and other interruptions can take a lot longer than expected, things might get delay but they will happen eventually.

Avoid subtle dangers in India:
After early evening doesn’t head out alone rather consider going out with a group. Be on your own guard whenever you are in a busy place as pick pocketing is very common here so carrying huge quantity of cash is not a good idea. Also keep your valuables in your front or zippered pocket. There’s no such thing as a sidewalk on many streets in India and are always bustling with traffic jam of cows, vehicles, people and stray animals, so watch out and be aware of your surroundings.

Have a different experience while eating with hands:
The joy of using hands is worth trying as your hands are the cleanest utensil. Use of cutlery is limited in India, so learn how to eat with your hands, although it might need some practice but it is fun. However, avoid using your left hand for eating or passing things as Indians considered it as unclean and unpleasant.

Observing vegetarianism is a good idea:
To avoid getting sick from food poisoning, don’t eat meat. India has low meat consumption rates and mostly Indians prefer vegetarian food. Travelers choose vegetarian food as it is healthy, fresh, and delicious and you can get a lot of varieties of vegetarian food in India.

Know how to bargain like Indians
It is natural part while shopping in India, you might find it strange but it is a friendly negotiation in India. They are very good at going for your emotions and know how to up sell, so if you want good deal, this is an essential skill. If you don’t want to bargain just look out for fixed rate shops, which generally have already set and fair price.
